John Leach (judge)
Sir John Leach, KC (28 August 1760 – 14 September 1834) was an English judge, and Master of the Rolls. Life The son of Richard Leach, a coppersmith of Bedford, he was born in that town on 28 August 1760. After leaving Bedford School he became a pupil of Sir Robert Taylor the architect. In his office he is said to have made the working drawings for the erection of Stone Buildings, which are still preserved at Lincoln's Inn, and to have designed Howletts, in the parish of Bekesbourne, Kent. On the recommendation of his old fellow-pupil, Samuel Pepys Cockerell, and other friends, Leach abandoned architecture for the law, and was admitted a student of the Middle Temple on 26 January 1785. Having studied of conveyancing and equity drafting in the chambers of William Alexander, he was called to the bar in Hilary term 1790, and joined the home circuit and Surrey sessions. John Leach (Royal Navy Officer)
John Catterall Leach, (1 September 1894 – 10 December 1941) was a British naval officer. He was the only captain of the battleship during its short period in service. The ''Bismarck'' Very soon after the ''Prince of Wales'' entered active service in 1941, the ship fought under Leach's command in the Battle of the Denmark Strait, and suffered damage fighting the German battleship ''Bismarck''. However, damage inflicted by the ''Prince of Wales'' caused the ''Bismarck'' to lose fuel, forcing the latter to attempt to return to a base in occupied France. Despite a proposal to court-martial Leach for breaking off the action with the ''Bismarck'' after the ''Hood'' had sunk, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his part. John Albert Leach
John Albert Leach (19 March 1870 – 3 October 1929) was an ornithologist, teacher and headmaster in the state of Victoria, Australia. Leach was born in Ballarat, Victoria and educated at Creswick Grammar School (where he was dux), Melbourne Training College (1890) and the University of Melbourne, where he graduated B.Sc. in 1904, M.Sc. in 1906 and in 1912 obtained his doctorate for research in ornithology. Leach was a regular writer and broadcaster on natural history subjects and introduced it into the school curriculum. He was President of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU) 1922-1924 and Editor of its journal ''The Emu'' 1914-1924 and 1928–1929. He was a member of the British Ornithologists Union and a corresponding fellow of the American Ornithologists Union. Leach was also member of the Field Naturalists Club of Victoria. Johnny Leach
John Alfred Leach MBE (20 November 1922 – 5 June 2014) was a British table tennis player, coach, and author. He began competing at a relatively old age, 17, before serving in World War II. During the war, he greatly elevated his game and, in 1946, achieved a world ranking. In 1949, Leach became Great Britain's second World Champion singles player. After winning the title, he achieved widespread fame within the United Kingdom, appearing on television and writing for '' News of the World''. Two years later, Leach added a second singles title. In 1953, he was part of the team that won Great Britain's first, and as of 2014 only, team World Championship. He also won 13 bronze and silver World championship medals between 1947 and 1955. John Leach, also known as John Leech (died 16 April 1847) was a British politician. Leach lived at Lea in Surrey. He was a trustee of the Agricultural Employment Institution. West Surrey (formally the Western division of Surrey) was a parliamentary constituency in the county of Surrey, which returned two Members of Parliament (MPs) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the bloc vote system. It was created under the Great Reform Act for the 1832 general election, and abolished for the 1885 general election. John Leach (17 October 1846 – 1 February 1893) was an English cricketer. Leach was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Rochdale, Lancashire. Leach made his first-class cricket debut for Lancashire County Cricket Club against Middlesex in 1866 at Old Trafford. He made two further first-class appearances in 1866, against Middlesex in the return fixture at the Cattle Market Ground, Islington, and Surrey at The Oval. He made his next first-class appearance ten years later against Kent at Castleton Cricket Club Ground, Rochdale and a final appearance the following season against MCC at Lord's. In his five first-class matches, he scored a total of 103 runs at an average of 11.44, and a highest score of 34 runs. His died at the town of his birth on 1 February 1893. John Leach (studio Potter)
John Leach was a studio potter, the eldest son of David Leach and the eldest grandson of Bernard Leach. Born in St Ives in 1939, he studied under his grandfather and father at St Ives and under Ray Finch at Winchcombe. Leach left school in 1957 and worked with his father at Lowerdown Pottery Bovey Tracey, Devon and from 1961 to 1962 he was an apprentice at the Leach Pottery St Ives. He founded Muchelney Pottery on the Somerset Levels in 1964, and developed a range of pottery using local clay and wood to fuel the kiln. The Victoria and Albert Museum in London holds a collection of his work and also the Worcester Art Museum USA.
