Sir John Robert Kerr (24 September 1914 – 24 March 1991) was an Australian barrister and judge who served as the 18th Governor-General of Australia, in office from 1974 to 1977. He is primarily known for his involvement in the 1975 Australian constitutional crisis, 1975 constitutional crisis, which culminated in his decision to dismiss the incumbent prime minister Gough Whitlam and appoint Malcolm Fraser as his replacement, unprecedented actions in Australian federal politics. Kerr was born in Sydney to working-class parents. He won scholarships to Fort Street High School, Fort Street Boys' High School and the University of Sydney, where he studied law. John Kerr (pathologist)
John Foxton Ross Kerr (born 24 January 1934 in Sydney) is an Australian pathologist. He was the first to describe the ultrastructural changes in apoptosis, and could show that they differ significantly from the changes that occur in necrosis, another form of programmed cell death. For the first time, he placed the roles of cell death in normal adult mammals, and in disease, into scientific focus. Biography Education Kerr studied at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. In 1955, Kerr earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree, and in 1957, a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). As a medical assistant, he worked at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. John Francis Kerr (November 26, 1898 – October 19, 1993) was a professional baseball player. He played all or part of eight seasons in Major League Baseball between 1923 and 1934 with the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox, and the Washington Senators in the American League, primarily as a second baseman. Early career Kerr made his professional baseball debut in 1923. He split that season and 1924 between the Tigers and the minor leagues, then went out west to the Pacific Coast League in 1925. After playing one season with the Salt Lake City Bees and three more with the Hollywood Stars, he was drafted by the White Sox in the 1928 rule 5 draft. John Kerr (8 April 1885 – 27 December 1972) was a Scottish cricketer from Greenock. A right-handed batsman, Kerr represented the Scotland national cricket team for 26 years and is their longest serving player of all time. His unbeaten 178 against Ireland in Dublin remained a national record for three decades until it was passed by James Aitchison. Aitchison was also the man to pass his record tally of 1975 runs for Scotland. Kerr played club cricket for Greenock and scored 21558 runs for them and made 49 hundreds. John "Jack" Kerr was a Canadian ice hockey player and athlete. He was one of the founders of the Ottawa Hockey Club for which he played from 1883 onwards. He was a member of the Ontario championship team in 1891, 1892, 1893 and the Canadian championship team of 1892. He played the forward position. Hockey career Along with Halder Kirby, Kerr was visiting Montreal during the 1883 Montreal Winter Carnival where he witnessed games of the outdoor hockey tournament. According to the ''Ottawa Citizen'', one said to the other "that we could beat those fellows" and the other agreed. The two, upon their return to Ottawa, organized the Ottawa Hockey Club along with Frank Jenkins. Kerr would play with Ottawa until the 1893 season, winning several Ottawa and Ontario championships and winning the Canadian championship in 1892.
