Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club
Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club or BWCUCC is a cricket club that plays at Burnside Park, Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. It is one of the oldest cricket clubs in Christchurch, having been established in 1905. As of the start of the 2016/17 season the club has 11 adult teams which play in several grades in the Christchurch Metropolitan Cricket Association. The club also has 10 junior Saturday teams in the Christchurch Junior Cricket Association leagues. They also have a very well supported Friday night league for younger cricketers (school years 1–3) who are just being introduced to the game. Sir John Anthony Anderson (2 August 1945 – 13 November 2018) was a New Zealand businessman and sports administrator. He served as Chief Executive and Director of ANZ Bank New Zealand (then ANZ National Bank Ltd) and after retiring at the end of 2005, became the chair of Television New Zealand in April 2006. Marylebone Cricket Club
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London. The club was formerly the governing body of cricket retaining considerable global influence. In 1788, the MCC took responsibility for the laws of cricket, issuing a revised version that year. Errol Reginald Thorold Holmes (21 August 1905 – 16 August 1960) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Oxford University, Surrey and England between 1924 and 1955. A dashing right-handed batsman, Holmes believed that cricket was to be enjoyed and was an important figure in restoring the reputation of English cricket after the Bodyline controversy of the early 1930s. Bodyline, also known as fast leg theory bowling, was a cricketing tactic devised by the English cricket team for their 1932–33 Ashes tour of Australia. It was designed to combat the extraordinary batting skill of Australia's leading batsman, Don Bradman. A bodyline delivery was one in which the cricket ball was bowled, at pace, at the body of the batsman in the expectation that when he defended himself with his bat a resulting deflection could be caught by one of several fielders standing close by on the leg side.
