John Jessop
John Shillito Jessop (14 August 1840 – 4 July 1895) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Jessop was born at Whitley, North Yorkshire, England, and educated at private schools at Whitley and Pollington, and at the Snaith Grammar School. In 1859 he arrived in Melbourne, and in 1864 went to Queensland, and came to Dalby in 1867 commenced butchering business. In January 1882, he was elected to represent Dalby in the Legislative Assembly—a seat he held until 1893 when he was defeated by Joshua Thomas Bell Joshua Thomas Bell (13 March 1863 – 10 March 1911) was an Australian barrister and politician. Queensland Legislative Assembly
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). Western Downs Region
Western Downs Region is a local government area in Queensland, Australia. The Western Downs Regional Council manages an area of , which is slightly smaller than Switzerland, although with a population of 34,467 in June 2018, it is over 228 times less densely populated. The area is home to prime farming land and thus agriculture is a major industry in the area. Dalby, the biggest town in the region is home to the second largest cattle saleyards in Australia. Whitley, North Yorkshire
Whitley is a village in the Selby district of North Yorkshire, England, close to the Aire and Calder Navigation and the M62 motorway. The population of the village at the 2001 census was recorded as being 574, which had risen to 1,021 by the time of the 2011 census. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated the population to have risen again to 1,110. It was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.
