John Hayes (born April 7, 1955) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Career Hayes had a five set win over John James in the opening round of the 1980 US Open, before losing in the second round to Guillermo Vilas. In his two other US Open main singles draw appearances, in 1981 and 1984, Hayes failed to get past the first round. Hayes was a doubles runner-up, with Tracy Delatte, at the 1981 Napa Open. He also made the singles quarter-finals. Early life Hayes was born in Marrickville and left school at 14 to pursue a career in panel beating and also as a professional rugby league footballer. He played his junior rugby league with a number of clubs most notably Granville where he caught the attention of Western Suburbs. Playing career Hayes made his first grade debut against Newtown in 1961 at Henson Park which Wests won 25–15. In the same year, Hayes played in the 1961 grand final defeat against St George. Hayes was also selected to play for New South Wales in 1961, featuring in two matches. John Hayes (cricketer)
John Arthur Hayes (11 January 1927 – 25 December 2007) was a New Zealand Test cricketer who played 15 Test matches for the country between 1951 and 1958. Primarily a fast bowler bowling late away-swingers with a high action, he took 30 wickets in Tests. Perhaps his finest moment was taking 11 wickets for the New Zealanders against MCC at Lord's in 1958. Cricket career Hayes was born in Auckland. He made his first-class debut for Auckland in December 1946. After only two first-class matches, and with the team looking for someone to support the aging Jack Cowie, he played in a trial match in January 1949 for the New Zealand side that toured England that year. He took five wickets for 73, and was selected for the tour led by Walter Hadlee. He took 26 wickets at a bowling average of 33 before a groin injury in July ruled him out for the remainder of the tour. John Hayes (harness Racer)
John G. Hayes, Sr. (July 17, 1919 – December 8, 1998), was a harness racing driver, trainer, and owner who was inducted into the Canadian and American harness racing halls of fame. Born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, Hayes was the son of a dairy farmer, and went on to become a prominent figure in harness racing and the first Canadian to be selected to the Little Brown Jug's Wall of Fame. His greatest accomplishment was in training horses in particular when he developed the great champion, Strike Out. A longtime director of the Canadian Trotting Association, for ten years Hayes served as its president. Hayes was also vice-chairman of the Ontario Racing Commission. It had been Hayes' lifelong dream to win the Little Brown Jug, and was famous for having told a newspaper reporter: "I'd rather win the Little Brown Jug than go to heaven." John Joseph Hayes (April 10, 1886 – August 25, 1965) was an American athlete, a member of the Irish American Athletic Club, and winner of the marathon race at the 1908 Summer Olympics. Hayes' Olympic victory contributed to the early growth of long-distance running and marathoning in the United States. He was also the first man to win a marathon at the now official standard distance of 26 miles 385 yards when Olympic officials lengthened the distance to put the finish line in front of the Royal Box (the 1896 and 1904 Olympic marathons had been less than 25 miles long).
