John H. Abeles is an American-based venture investor, director, consultant, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He was a director of the International Opera Alliance, New York and was a member of The Players Club, a theatre-themed social club. He also was on the board of the New Group, a theater organization in New York. He served on the advisory board of the College of Chemistry at University of California, Berkeley. Abeles is the president and founder of MedVest, Inc. He is the managing member of Dalyda Finance LLC. Abeles is the founder, sole investor and general partner of Northlea Partners LLLP. He is chairman of UniMedica Inc. The Players (New York City)
The Players (often inaccurately called The Players Club) is a private social club founded in New York City by the noted 19th-century Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth. In 1888, Booth purchased an 1847 mansion at 16 Gramercy Park, reserved an upper floor for his residence, and turned the rest into a clubhouse. The building's interior and part of its exterior were designed by architect Stanford White; its entryway gaslights are among the few remaining examples in New York City. It is reportedly the oldest club in its original clubhouse and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1962. The Players serves as a social club but is also a repository of American and British theatre history, memorabilia, and theatrical artifacts. The New Group
The New Group, is a New York City Off-Broadway theatrical troupe founded by Artistic Director Scott Elliott, that produced its first play, Mike Leigh's '' Ecstasy'', in 1995. The New Group is run by founding Artistic Director, Scott Elliott, and Executive Director, Adam Bernstein. The New Group was recognized with the 2004 Tony award for Best Musical for Avenue Q originated at the Vinyard Theatre in 2003.
