John H. Paty
John Henry Paty (September 8, 1840 – February 2, 1897) was the Consul to the Netherlands for the Kingdom of Hawaii. He was a businessman who served as an auditor or as a trustee of numerous organizations, and was a founding member of both the Planters’ Labor & Supply Company and the Oahu Railway and Land Company. Background He was the fifth generation of Paty men to bear the name John, and was born to seafaring trader Captain John Paty (1807–1868) and Mary Ann Jefferson Paty (1813–1891). According to Captain Paty's granddaughter, their family was descended from Richard Warren, one of the passengers on the ''Mayflower'', the English ship that transported the first Puritans to North America in 1620, landing at Plymouth Rock. Kingdom Of Hawaii
The Hawaiian Kingdom, or Kingdom of Hawaiʻi ( Hawaiian: ''Ko Hawaiʻi Pae ʻĀina''), was a sovereign state located in the Hawaiian Islands. The country was formed in 1795, when the warrior chief Kamehameha the Great, of the independent island of Hawaiʻi, conquered the independent islands of Oʻahu, Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi and unified them under one government. In 1810, the whole Hawaiian archipelago became unified when Kauaʻi and Niʻihau joined the Hawaiian Kingdom voluntarily. Two major dynastic families ruled the kingdom: the House of Kamehameha and the House of Kalākaua. The kingdom won recognition from the major European powers. Zephaniah Swift Spalding
Zephaniah Swift Spalding (September 2, 1837– June 19, 1927) was a veteran of the American Civil War, who was first sent to Hawaii on a clandestine mission for US Secretary of State . He later moved to Hawaii and made a fortune in the sugar plantation business. Early years Commonly known as Col. Spalding, or as Z. S, Zephaniah Swift Spalding was born in Warren, Ohio, on September 2, 1837, the fifth of seven children of Lucretia A. Swift Spalding and Rufus Paine Spalding . Jonathan Austin (Hawaii Official)
Jonathan Austin (November 7, 1830 – December 7, 1892) was a veteran of the American Civil War, president of Paukaa Sugar Company, and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Kingdom of Hawaii during the reign of Kalākaua. Background Born in Greenfield, New York, he was a law student before moving to Hawaii. During the American Civil War, he returned to his native state and enlisted with the rank of captain in the 78th New York Volunteer Infantry. William Owen Smith
William Owen Smith (August 4, 1848 – April 13, 1929) was a lawyer from a family of American missionaries who participated in the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii. He was attorney general for the entire duration of the Provisional Government of Hawaii and the Republic of Hawaii. Life Smith was born August 4, 1848, in Kōloa on the island of Kauaʻi. His parents were the physician James William Smith (1810–1887) and Melicent Knapp Smith (1816-1891), a teacher. William Richards Castle
William Richards Castle (March 19, 1849 – June 5, 1935) was a lawyer and politician in the Kingdom of Hawaii and Republic of Hawaii. Family William Richards Castle was born in Honolulu on March 19, 1849. His father was Samuel Northrup Castle (1808–1894), and mother was Mary Tenney Castle (1819–1907). He was a namesake of William Richards (1793–1847) who drafted the first constitution of the kingdom. On October 12, 1875 he married Ida Beatrice Lowrey (1854–1926) on October 12, 1875 and had three children. His brothers George Parmele Castle (1851–1932) and James Bicknell Castle (1855–1918) became executives in the firm Castle & Cooke which was co-founded by his father and Amos Starr Cooke, and developed it into one of the "Big Five" corporations that dominated the Territory of Hawaii economy. Joseph Ballard Atherton
Joseph Ballard Atherton (1837–1903) was a Honolulu businessman and a former president of Castle & Cooke. He was a member of the Annexation group, which overthrew the Kingdom of Hawaii. He was the founder of Honolulu YMCA. Atherton was a member of both Kalākaua's Privy Council of State and Liliʻuokalani's Privy Council of State. Early years Born in 1837 in Boston, Massachusetts.
