John Griffith (Baptist Minister)
John Griffith (1622?–1700) was an English General Baptist minister. Life Griffiths appears to have joined the Baptists about 1640, and founded about 1646 a London congregation in Dunning's Alley, Bishopsgate Street Without. It is probable that he practised medicine, as he was known as Dr. Griffith. After the Restoration of 1660, Griffith frequently got into trouble as a conventicle preacher; and persistently declined the oath of allegiance. His difficulty was that the terms of the oath bound him to obey laws not then in being, and future sovereigns who might be Roman Catholic. His first imprisonment was in Newgate Prison (1661) for 17 months. He was again committed on 18 April 1683, and is said to have spent fourteen years more or less in gaol. Griffith was apparently free from molestation after James II's declaration for liberty of conscience (11 April 1687). John Norton-Griffiths
Lieutenant-Colonel Sir John Norton-Griffiths, 1st Baronet, (13 July 1871 – 27 September 1930) was an engineer, British Army officer during the Second Boer War and the First World War, and a Member of Parliament. John Griffith (journalist)
John Griffith (16 December 1821 - 13 December 1877) was a Welsh journalist based in London. He was known by his pen name "Y Gohebydd" (The Correspondent). Early life John Griffith was born in Bodgwilym, Wales in 1821 to Griffith Griffith and Maria (née Roberts). He grew up in Barmouth, Merionethshire where he received an elementary education. Around 1836 he was apprenticed to William Owen; 'Grocer, Draper, and Druggist', with whom he remained until 1840. In 1847 Griffith was appointed to Sir Hugh Owen MP in connection with his work as secretary of the Welsh Education Society and went to live in London. They parted in 1849 and Griffith decided to remain in London where he opened a grocers, first in Greenwich and then in Walworth. John Stanley Griffith
John Stanley Griffith (1928–1972) was a British chemist, mathematician and biophysicist. He was the nephew of the distinguished British bacteriologist Frederick Griffith. Career Beginning as an undergraduate in mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1946–1949, he went on to read Part II biochemistry in 1949–1951. His research career continued in theoretical chemistry at Oxford and Cambridge, where he held a Berry-Ramsey research fellowship at King's College. He had several appointments in Britain and the US in his different disciplines. These included professorships in chemistry at Indiana University Bloomington and at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Marlow Award of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1961. He then spent time at the Department of Mathematics at UMIST in Manchester. John Griffith (engineer)
Sir John Purser Griffith (5 October 1848 – 21 October 1938) was a Welsh-born Irish civil engineer and politician. Griffith was educated at Trinity College Dublin, and gained a licence in civil engineering in 1868. He served a two-year apprenticeship under Dr Bindon Blood Stoney, the Engineer in Chief of the Dublin Port and Docks, before working as assistant to the county surveyor of County Antrim. He returned to Dublin in 1871 and worked as Dr. Stoney's assistant, becoming the Chief Engineer in 1898 before retiring in 1913. He served as president of the Institution of Civil Engineers in Ireland between 1887 and 1889 and of the Institution of Civil Engineers between 1919 and 1920. He was elected Commissioner of Irish Lights in 1913 and was a member of the Royal Commission on Canals and Waterways between 1906 and 1911. Johnny Griffith (May 27, 1924 – April 28, 2003) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at South Georgia College (1950–1954) and the University of Georgia (1961–1963). Early life and playing career Griffith was born in Crawfordville, Georgia, but played high school football at Boy's High in Atlanta, Georgia. He lettered at the University of Georgia in 1946 and was on the Bulldogs' national championship team. He also played junior college football at South Georgia College. Griffith graduated from Georgia in 1950. Coaching career Griffith's coaching career began at the junior college level at South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia. Williams was born in Llangoed on Anglesey, but lived most of his life in nearby Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and he also worked as a teacher.
