John Gonçalves
John Gonçalves MBE is a Gibraltarian politician, who served as Mayor of Gibraltar from 4 April 2019 to 1 June 2021. Prior to this, he was chairman of the Gibraltar Police Authority, from 2013 to 2018. Early life Gonçalves had lived in Portugal with his Gibraltarian mother for a time, returning to Gibraltar after the death of his father. Pre-Mayoral career Gonçalves has a civil service background. Having been a member of the Gibraltar Sports Advisory Committee since 1972, Gonçalves became President of the Gibraltar Amateur Basketball Association in 1984, a position he still holds as of 2019. He became a member of the board of FIBA Europe in 2003, and its vice president in 2010. The Gift (band)
The Gift is a Portuguese alternative rock band, formed in 1994. They have released eight albums to date. In 2005 they won the MTV Europe award for best Portuguese act. Biography Formed in 1994, The Gift was initially a side project of the Dead Souls, Nuno Gonçalves, El Guam and Miguel Ribeiro’s band at the time. The evolution from one project to another was natural, as they felt the Dead Souls sound was limited by their instrumentation (guitar, drums and bass) and wanted to experiment with new sounds and explore new musical paths. In September, 1994, Sónia Tavares, Nuno and John Gonçalves, Miguel Ribeiro, and Ricardo Braga enrolled in the Bar Ben Music Competition in Alcobaça, and took second place in the competition, to everyone's great surprise, given the band’s short time in existence. 2019 Island Games
The XVIII Island Games (officially the ''2019 NatWest Island Games'') was held in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar between 6 and 12 July 2019. This was the second time that the territory has hosted the games, the first being in 1995. The games did not include archery, cycling, football, or volleyball, which had been in all previous games since 1985, due to the lack of venues. They were replaced by tenpin bowling, judo, and squash. Gibraltar's sports facilities were greatly redeveloped throughout 2018. Cycling was subsequently included on the list of events on the Games official website, while the 2019 Inter Games Football Tournament was announced as a substitute for the lack of football. Fabian Raymond Picardo (born 18 February 1972) is a Gibraltarians, Gibraltarian politician and barrister serving as Chief Minister of Gibraltar and Leader of the Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party since 2011 Gibraltar general election, 2011. Gibraltar International Airport or North Front Airport is the civilian airport that serves the British overseas territories, British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The runway is owned by the Ministry of Defence (United Kingdom), Ministry of Defence for use by the Royal Air Force as RAF Gibraltar. Civilian operators use the civilian-operated terminal. The ''Gibraltar Chronicle'' is a national newspaper published in Gibraltar since 1801. It became a daily in 1821. It is Gibraltar's oldest established daily newspaper and the world's second oldest English language newspaper to have been in print continuously. Its editorial offices are at Watergate House, and the print works are in the New Harbours industrial estate. History The ''Gibraltar Chronicle'' was born in direct relationship with the garrison. Casualty lists and news were slow in the 18th century and when five regiments from the Garrison of Gibraltar were promptly shipped to Egypt in 1801, the news was posted on a notice board in the Gibraltar Garrison Library.
