John Ellis (footballer)
John Ellis (born 20 September 1948) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Ellis spent some time in the Essendon reserves, after coming to the club from Keilor. He made just four senior appearances in 1967 but didn't miss a game in 1968, playing all 20 home and away fixtures and three finals. In the 1968 VFL Grand Final, which Essendon lost, Ellis played as a centreman. He kicked 23 goals during 1968 season and also polled well in the Brownlow Medal, with eight votes, the second most by an Essendon player. Essendon cut Ellis from their list during the 1971 season after failing to have much of an impact in the previous three seasons. He had missed a lot of football in 1969 due to a serious knee injury and was unable to recapture the form he showed in 1968. Keilor Football Club
The Keilor Football Club, nicknamed the Blues, is an Australian rules football club located in Keilor, Victoria, north west of Melbourne. The club originated in 1877, formed at a general meeting at the Waggoner's Arms Hotel. In 1926, the club became a founding member of the Keilor and Broadmeadows Football League, winning premierships in 1926 and 1928. Since 1932, the club has competed in the Essendon District Football League and today fields teams in the Premier Division (seniors), Reserves Premier Division and Women's Premier Division, as well as a number of junior squads. The Northern Football Netball League (formerly known as the Diamond Valley Football League and later Northern Football League) is an Australian sports league based in the Diamond Valley region of suburban Melbourne, Victoria. Based in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong, the Redlegs wore navy blue and red as their club colours. Club history From 1953 to 1957 the club played in the Federal Football League.
