John E. Butler
John Edward Butler (1836-?) was an American politician, lawyer, and newspaper editor from Maine. Butler, a Republican from Biddeford, Maine, served two single year terms in the Maine Senate (1873–74). Butler, a Free Will Baptist, was born in Berwick, Maine and attended Bowdoin College without graduating. Bowdoin College ( ) is a private liberal arts college in Brunswick, Maine. When Bowdoin was chartered in 1794, Maine was still a part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The college offers 34 majors and 36 minors, as well as several joint engineering programs with Columbia, Caltech, Dartmouth College, and the University of Maine.
