John Drummond, 8th Earl Of Perth
John David Drummond, 8th Earl of Perth, (13 May 1907 – 25 November 2002), styled Viscount Strathallan from 1937 to 1951, was a Scottish peer, banker and politician. Because of the complicated history of the earldom of Perth (attainder 1715, reversed 1853), he was sometimes deemed informally to be the 17th Earl of Perth. He was Minister of State for Colonial Affairs from 1957 to 1962. Background and education Drummond was the son of Eric Drummond, 7th Earl of Perth, and the Hon. Angela Mary Constable-Maxwell, a daughter of Marmaduke Constable-Maxwell, 11th Lord Herries of Terregles. A Roman Catholic, he was educated at Downside School and Trinity College, Cambridge. Harold Macmillan
Maurice Harold Macmillan, 1st Earl of Stockton, (10 February 1894 – 29 December 1986) was a British Conservative statesman and politician who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1957 to 1963. Caricatured as "Supermac", he was known for his pragmatism, wit and unflappability. Macmillan was badly injured as an infantry officer during the First World War. He suffered pain and partial immobility for the rest of his life. After the war he joined his family book-publishing business, then entered Parliament at the 1924 general election. Losing his seat in 1929, he regained it in 1931, soon after which he spoke out against the high rate of unemployment in Stockton-on-Tees. John Maclay, 1st Viscount Muirshiel
John Scott Maclay, 1st Viscount Muirshiel, (26 October 1905 – 17 August 1992) was a British politician, sitting as a National Liberal and Conservative Member of Parliament before the party was fully assimilated into the Unionist Party in Scotland in the mid-1960s. Lord Muirshiel served as Secretary of State for Scotland from 1957 to 1962 within Harold Macmillan's Conservative government, having held a number of junior ministerial posts beforehand. Stanley, Perthshire
Stanley is a village on the north side of the River Tay in Perthshire, Scotland, around north of Perth. The section of the River Tay near the village is a popular location for canoeing and fishing. Etymology The village of Stanley gains its name from Lady Amelia Stanley, the daughter of James Stanley, 7th Earl of Derby. In the 1600s the area around Stanley was part of the estate of Earls of Atholl and was also the location of Inchbervis Castle. In 1659 the castle was renamed Stanley House in honour of the wedding of John Murray, 1st Marquess of Atholl and Lady Stanley. When the village was built in the 1700s it took the name Stanley after the nearby house. Stobhall (or Stobhall Castle) is a country house and estate in Perthshire in Scotland, from Perth, Scotland, Perth. The 17th-century dower house and several other buildings are Category A-listed with Historic Environment Scotland. The lands at Stobhall have been in the hands of the Clan Drummond, Drummond family, the Earl of Perth, Earls of Perth, since the 14th century. Stobhall Castle was the ancestral seat of the Drummonds, a stronghold of Roman Catholicism in Scotland after the English Reformation, the Drummonds being staunch Roman Catholic Recusancy, recusants.
