John Cosnett
Johnny "John" Cosnett (11 June 1951 – 23 April 2018) was an English professional darts player who competed in the 1980s & 1990s. He had one daughter (Jane) from his first marriage, and a son (Greg) and daughter (Kirsty) from his second to Cherry. Career Cosnett won the 1985 British Open, beating Welshman Peter Locke in the final. Despite winning one of the biggest prizes in the history of professional darts, Cosnett never managed to meet his new-found expectations, which took him to #16 in the World Rankings. He competed in the 1985 BDO World Darts Championship, and won the opening round against Rab Scott, but was defeated in the second round by his fellow Englishman John Lowe. He also competed in the 1985 Winmau World Masters, defeating Keith Deller in the first round, before losing to Steve Gittins in the last 16 stage. Wednesfield
Wednesfield is a town and historic village in the City of Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, It is east-northeast of Wolverhampton city centre and about from Birmingham and is part of the West Midlands conurbation. It was historically within the county of Staffordshire. Rab Scott
Richard "Rab" Scott (14 November 1956 – May 2021) was an English professional darts player who competed in the 1980s. Career He twice competed in the BDO World Darts Championship but was defeated in the first round by the fellow Englishmen Alan Glazier in 1984 and John Cosnett in 1985. Rab was also registered for Walton in the Essex Men's Superleague. Rab quit the BDO in 1985. Bullseye (UK Game Show)
''Bullseye'' is a British darts-themed television game show created by Andrew Wood and Norman Vaughan. The show features three pairs of contestants, each consisting of an amateur darts player and a quizzer, competing in darts games and quizzes to win cash and prizes. The original series aired on the ITV network and was produced by ATV in 1981, then by Central from 1982 until 1995. Jim Bowen presented the show during its initial 14-year run. A revival produced by Granada Yorkshire for the Challenge TV network, hosted by Dave Spikey, aired in 2006. The show sported an animated mascot named Bully, an anthropomorphic large brown bull who wore a red and white striped shirt and blue trousers. Steve Gittins
Stephen Gittins (29 August 1959 – 20 February 2013) was an English professional darts player. Career Gittins played twice at the BDO World Darts Championship. In 1989, he beat Finland's Kexi Heinäharju in the first round but lost in the second round to five-time World Champion Eric Bristow. He returned to the Lakeside a year later and again reached the second round, beating Australian Wayne Weening in round one, but again lost in the second round to Bristow. Gittins also played twice at the Winmau World Masters, reaching the quarter-finals in 1985. Gittins also won three open tournaments, winning the Welsh Open and Swedish Open in 1988 and then the Finnish Open in 1989. Gittins disappeared from the scene after the 1990 BDO World Darts Championship but briefly made a comeback at the 2005 UK Open (darts), PDC UK Open. Keith Deller
Keith Kelvin Deller (born 24 December 1959) is an English former professional darts player best known for winning the 1983 BDO World Darts Championship and Unipart British Professional Championship in 1987. He was the first qualifier ever to win the championship and remains one of the youngest champions in history. For his world championship win, Deller used 18-gram spring-loaded darts, later banned for tournament play but now legal again. Career BDO Deller's victory over Eric Bristow in the 1983 BDO World Darts Championship by 6 sets to 5 was probably the biggest upset in the history of the championship. He had also beaten world number 3 John Lowe in the quarter finals and defending champion and world number 2 Jocky Wilson in the semi-final to become the only player in history to defeat the world's top three ranked players in the World Championship. Winmau World Masters
The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974. The tournament is sponsored by darts board manufacturer, Winmau. The World Masters was unusual in darts in that its sets are the best of 3 legs (first to 2) rather than the standard best of 5 legs (first to 3). It was previously the final leg of the BDO's Grand Slam title of televised majors, along with the BDO World Darts Championship, International Darts League and World Darts Trophy, until the latter two tournaments were axed in 2008. The champion is referred to as the World Master. After the collapse of the British Darts Organisation in September 2020, the World Darts Federation announced plans to launch the WDF World Masters. John Lowe (darts Player)
John Lowe (born 21 July 1945) is an English former professional darts player. Along with Eric Bristow and Jocky Wilson, he was known for dominating darts during the 1980s. Lowe was world champion on three occasions, in 1979, 1987 and 1993. He was also a two-time winner of the Winmau World Masters and a two-time World Cup singles champion. In total, Lowe won 15 BDO and WDF majors. He held the World No. 1 ranking on four occasions. In October 1984, he became the first player to hit a televised nine-dart finish. Lowe is one of only six players to have won the World Championship three or more times, and was the first person to win it in three separate decades; along with Phil Taylor, he remains one of only two players to achieve this. 1985 BDO World Darts Championship
The 1985 Embassy World Darts Championship was the 8th World Professional Championships. The tournament was held between 5 and 12 January. It was the seventh and final time that the tournament was held at the Jollees Cabaret Club in Stoke-on-Trent, as the tournament organisers, the British Darts Organisation, decided to move the event to the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green, Surrey, from 1986. The Jollees Cabaret Club closed in 1992, due to losing money, not reopening until 2016. Eric Bristow went into the tournament as defending champion and was almost beaten in the first round by Ken Summers. Summers had won the first set and was two legs to nil in front and left on 68 to pull off a major surprise. After hitting single 20 and single 16, he threw a potential match-winning dart at double sixteen just inside the wire of the single. Bristow then came back to win the match.
