John Coates (producer)
John Coates (7 November 1927 – 16 September 2012) was a British film producer, best known for producing the animated film ''The Snowman'' based on the picture book by Raymond Briggs, one of the first animated productions screened on Channel Four and still repeated every year on the channel. He co-founded the animation studio TVC (Television Cartoons) London with George Dunning in 1957 and worked on The Beatles's animated feature '' Yellow Submarine'' and produced numerous other animated films including '' When the Wind Blows'', ''Granpa'', ''Father Christmas'', ''The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends'' and '' The Bear''. John's business partner for many years was Norman David Kauffman, who first worked with him at the age of 16 as a trainee animator. John Coates (tenor)
John Coates (29 June 1865 – 16 August 1941) was a leading English tenor, who sang in opera and oratorio and on the concert platform. His repertoire ranged from Bach and Purcell to contemporary works, and embraced the major heldentenor roles in Richard Wagner's operas. For more than 40 years, with only a four-year interruption for military service during World War I, he overcame the limitations of a voice that was not naturally large by impressing listeners with his intense artistic expression, lively diction, musical versatility and memorable stage presence. Coates spent some time on the European continent, toured Australia and South Africa in 1912–13 and performed in North America in the 1890s and again in 1925. John Wind Coates, Jr. (christened 26 February 1828 – 7 July 1870) was an English people, English first-class cricketer. The son of John Wind Coates senior, he was born in February 1828 at Stokesley, Stokesley, Yorkshire. He served in the North York Rifle Regiment of Militia, being Officer (armed forces)#United Kingdom, commissioned with the rank of Lieutenant (British Army and Royal Marines), lieutenant. He was promoted to the rank of Captain (British Army and Royal Marines), captain in September 1854, before being promoted to the rank of second Major (United Kingdom), major in June 1859. John Dowling Coates (born 7 May 1950) is an Australian lawyer, sports administrator and businessman. He is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) having served as a vice president from 2013 to 2017 and again since 2020, and is the former president of the Australian Olympic Committee and chairman of the Australian Olympic Foundation. Alongside these roles Coates is also the president of the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the International Council of Arbitration for Sport. John Francis Coates, OBE (30 March 1922 – 10 July 2010) was a British naval architect best known for his work on the study of construction of the Ancient Greek trireme. His research led to the construction of the first working replica of triremes, the fastest and most devastating warship of Classical Mediterranean empires, and gave a greater understanding of how they were built and used. He also carried out research into the use of shipping in Northern Europe during the Bronze Age, in particular the Ferriby Bronze Age boat and the Dover Boat. Career Coates was born and raised in Swansea, the son of chemists Ada and Joseph E. Coates, Professor of Chemistry at the University College of Swansea.
