John Charles McIntosh
John Charles McIntosh (September 29, 1874 – February 23, 1940) was a lawyer and political figure in British Columbia. He represented Nanaimo in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1921 as a supporter of Sir Robert Borden's wartime Union Government. He was born in Almonte, Ontario, the son of John McIntosh, and was educated in Almonte, Toronto, at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall. McIntosh practised law in Esquimalt, British Columbia, also serving as solicitor for the Municipality of Esquimalt from 1912 to 1940. In 1903, he married Eva Bond Thoburn. Nanaimo was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in British Columbia, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1979. This Riding (division), riding was created as Nanaimo riding in 1903 from parts of Vancouver (electoral district), Vancouver and Victoria (electoral district), Victoria ridings. Its legal description when it was created was: "The electoral district of Nanaimo, comprising the provincial electoral districts of Cowichan, Esquimalt, Nanaimo City, Newcastle, Saanich and The Islands." The House of Commons of Canada (french: Chambre des communes du Canada) is the lower house of the Parliament of Canada. Together with the Crown and the Senate of Canada, they comprise the bicameral legislature of Canada. The House of Commons is a democratically elected body whose members are known as members of Parliament (MPs). There have been 338 MPs since the most recent electoral district redistribution for the 2015 federal election, which saw the addition of 30 seats. Robert Borden
Sir Robert Laird Borden (June 26, 1854 – June 10, 1937) was a Canadian lawyer and politician who served as the eighth prime minister of Canada from 1911 to 1920. He is best known for his leadership of Canada during World War I. Borden was born in Grand-Pré, Nova Scotia. He worked as a schoolteacher for a period and then served his articles of clerkship at a Halifax law firm. He was called to the bar in 1878, and soon became one of Nova Scotia's most prominent barristers. Borden was elected to the House of Commons in the 1896 federal election, representing the Conservative Party. He replaced Charles Tupper as party leader in 1901, but was defeated in two federal elections by Liberal Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier in 1904 and 1908. Almonte, Ontario
Almonte ( ; ) is a former mill town in Lanark County, in the eastern portion of Ontario, Canada. Formerly a separate municipality, Almonte is a ward of the town of Mississippi Mills, which was created on January 1, 1998, by the merging of Almonte with Ramsay and Pakenham townships. Almonte is south-west of downtown Ottawa. Its population as recorded in the 2016 Canadian Census was 5,039. History European settlement Almonte's first European-bred settler was David Shepherd, who in 1818 was given by the Crown to build and operate a mill. The site became known as Shepherd's Falls. Osgoode Hall is a landmark building in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The original -storey building was started in 1829 and finished in 1832 from a design by John Ewart and William Warren Baldwin. The structure is named for William Osgoode, the first Chief Justice of Upper Canada (now the province of Ontario).
