John Cassidy (artist)
John Cassidy (1 January 1860 – 19 July 1939) was an Irish sculptor and painter who worked in Manchester, England, and created many public sculptures. Life Cassidy was born in Littlewood Commons, Slane, County Meath, Ireland, on 1 January 1860. He moved to Dublin at the age of 20 to find work. There he attended art classes at night and won a scholarship to study in Milan, Italy. After two years, he moved to Manchester, England, where he lived for the rest of his life. He studied at the Manchester School of Art in 1883 and taught there in 1887. He created many public sculptures, especially war memorials, and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Hibernian Academy and in Manchester City Art Gallery. He was for a time assisted in his studios by John Ashton Floyd, a local sculptor. For most of his career, his studio was at Lincoln Grove in Chorlton-on-Medlock. John P. Cassidy (1855 – July 3, 1891) was an American outfielder in Major League Baseball from to . He was a pitcher in his first season, 1875, with the Brooklyn Atlantics but went 1–21 that season and was moved to the outfield the following year. Biography Much of Cassidy’s career was in civil engineering. He studied at the University of Newcastle, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil). John Edward Cassidy, Sr. (January 31, 1896 – March 25, 1984) was an American lawyer. Born in Ottawa, Illinois, Cassidy received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1917 and was admitted to the Illinois bar the same year. Cassidy served in the United States Army in Europe during World War I. In 1920, Cassidy moved to Peoria, Illinois to head the legal department of Aetna Life Insurance Company. In 1921, he set up his own law firm in Peoria. Cassidy was involved with the Democratic Party. In 1936, he ran unsuccessfully for the party's nomination for lieutenant governor of Illinois.
