John Campbell (snooker Player)
John Campbell (born 10 April 1953) is a former Australian professional snooker player. During a career which lasted from 1982 to 1993, he was a quarter-finalist in the 1983 Professional Players Tournament, and won the Australian Professional Championship in 1985 and 1988. Career Campbell was born on 10 April 1953 in Brisbane, and turned professional as a snooker player in 1982. Playing in only one tournament during the 1982/1983 season - the 1983 World Championship, he defeated Mike Watterson 10–6 in the first qualifying round and Jim Donnelly 10–2 in the second, to reach the main stages at the Crucible Theatre. There, he was drawn against former World Champion Cliff Thorburn but lost 5–10. Beginning the 1983–84 snooker season with a world ranking of 39th, Campbell played in five events. Dave Martin (born 9 May 1948) is a retired English snooker player. He became a professional player in 1980, and later reached the semi-finals at the 1981 International Open. He was runner-up to Steve Davis at the 1984 International Masters. Career Martin was born in Wheatley Hill on 9 May 1948. Robby Foldvari
Robby Foldvari (born 2 June 1960) is an Australian player of snooker, English billiards and pool. He is a multi-year World Billiards Champion (1986, 1997, 1998), and a national-level champion in both snooker (2006, 2008) and nine-ball pool (2012), as well as a World Games competitor (2013). Outside of competition, he is a coach and television commentator. Warren King (snooker Player)
Warren King (born 1 April 1955) is a former professional Australian snooker player who was active during the 1980s and 1990s. He reached his highest ranking position, 35th, for the 1985/1986 season, and was the runner-up in the 1990 Classic, where he lost 6–10 to Steve James. In 1994 King made the first 147 break in a tournament in Australia and in doing so became the first Australian to make a 147 break in a tournament. Willie Thorne
William Joseph Thorne (4 March 195417 June 2020) was an English professional snooker player. He won one ranking title, the 1985 Classic. He also reached the final of the 1985 UK Championship, losing 16–14 to Steve Davis after leading 13–8. He was noted for his break-building, and was among the first players to compile 100 century breaks. He earned the nickname "Mr Maximum". After retiring as a player, Thorne became a snooker commentator, primarily for the BBC. Career Thorne was born on 4 March 1954 at the family home in Anstey, a village located near Leicester, to Bill Thorne, a Desford Colliery miner, and his wife Nancy. He had two brothers. Jimmy Van Rensberg
Jimmy van Rensberg (born 24 October 1931) is a South African former professional snooker player. He won the South African Professional Championship in 1984. He was a record 12-time winner of the South African Amateur Championship. Career Born in 1931, van Rensberg turned professional in 1978 at the relatively advanced age of 46. He entered few tournaments in his first several seasons on tour, reaching the final of the 1979 South African Professional Championship after beating Silvino Francisco in the semi-finals; this was van Rensberg's first match in the event, and he lost the final 6–9 to Derek Mienie. The 1986 World Snooker Championship (also referred to as the 1986 Embassy World Snooker Championship for the purposes of sponsorship) was a professional snooker tournament that took place between 19 April and 5 May 1986 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. It was the sixth and final ranking event of the 1985–86 snooker season and the 1986 edition of the World Snooker Championship, first held in 1927. The total prize fund was £350,000 with £70,000 awarded to the winner and was sponsored by cigarette manufacturer Embassy. The defending champion was Dennis Taylor, who had defeated Steve Davis 18–17 in the 1985 World Snooker Championship final to win his first world title. Eddie Charlton
Edward Francis Charlton, (31 October 1929 – 8 November 2004) was an Australian professional snooker and English billiards player. He remains the only player to have been world championship runner-up in both snooker and billiards without winning either title. He later became a successful marketer of sporting goods launching a popular brand of billiard room equipment bearing his name. Early life Charlton was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia and came from a sporting family. His grandfather ran a billiards club in Swansea, New South Wales, and young Eddie began playing cue sports when he was nine years old. Mario Morra (pool Player)
Mario Morra (born 8 September 1953) is a Canadian professional pool player and former professional snooker player. He reached the tournament finals of the 1984 Canadian Professional Championship, the 2008 Canadian Open nine-ball championship, and the 2010 Canadian Open ten-ball championship. Career Morra became a snooker professional in 1979 and had limited success although he defeated both Mike Hallett and Jimmy White in the 1983 Jameson International Open, and, by winning three qualifying matches, reached the last 32 of the 1984 World Snooker Championship, where he lost 10–3 to Cliff Thorburn.
