John Bartlett (tennis)
John Bartlett (born ''John David Bartlett''; 17 March 1948) is an Australian former tennis player who was a Davis Cup member and top ten player, in Australia in the 1970s. Career His career highlights include winning the "All Japan Indoors" in 1969 and the Egyptian Open Doubles with John Marks and twice qualifying for the ATP World Doubles Finals. He also has wins over many top players including Arthur Ashe. Bartlett, a right-handed player, was an original member of the ATP and in the 1970s an action photo of him playing was included in the International Hall Of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. Bartlett was also the first Yonex contract Professional. After retiring from his tennis career, Bartlett has involved himself in the following ventures; Bartlett headed up a program for the ATP in 1979 to introduce prize money into the qualifying events in Europe. Brighton, Victoria
Brighton is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 11 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Bayside local government area. Arthur Ashe
Arthur Robert Ashe Jr. (July 10, 1943 – February 6, 1993) was an American professional tennis player who won three Grand Slam singles titles. He started to play tennis at six years old. He was the first black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team, and the only black man ever to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open. He retired in 1980. He was ranked world No. 1 by Rex Bellamy, Bud Collins, Judith Elian, Lance Tingay, ''World Tennis'' and ''Tennis Magazine'' (U.S.) in 1975. That year, Ashe was awarded the 'Martini and Rossi' Award, voted for by a panel of journalists, and the ATP Player of the Year award. In the ATP computer rankings, he peaked at No. 2 in May 1976. Sven Ginman
Sven Ginman (born 11 July 1948) is a former Swedish tennis player. Career Ginman, with partner John Bartlett, was the boys' doubles champion at the 1967 Australian Open. He also played in the men's singles draw at the 1967 Australian Open and lost in five sets in the first round to the fifteenth seed, Will Coghlan. Ginman, though a junior, participated in the qualifying draw for the men's singles at Wimbledon in 1966 and 1967, losing the first round of the qualifying on both occasions. He attended college in the United States at the University of Miami, where he was a member of the university's tennis team from 1967 to 1970. John Marks (tennis)
John M. P. Marks (born 9 December 1952) is a former professional tennis player from Australia. Marks won the ILTF Western Australian Championships on grass in 1978 at Perth defeating Mark Edmondson, Chris Kachel, and Bob Carmichael in a marathon five set final. Marks would finish as runner-up in the same event in 1979 losing the final to Edmondson. Marks is best remembered for finishing runner-up in singles at the 1978 Australian Open, defeating Arthur Ashe in the semifinals. As a result of this slam final appearance, he achieved his career-high singles ranking of world No. 44, after entering the tournament ranked No. 177. Marks never won a Grand Slam singles title during his career, but won 7 doubles titles and reached the semifinals of the men's doubles at the 1978 US Open.
