John Asgill
John Asgill (25 March 1659 – 10 November 1738) was an eccentric English writer and politician. Life Asgill attended Nonconformist (Protestantism) services in his youth. He studied law at the Middle Temple, 1686, and was called to the bar in 1692. He founded the first land bank in 1695 with Nicholas Barbon, which, after proving to be a profitable venture, merged with the land bank of John Briscoe in 1696. However, after profits dropped, the bank closed in 1699. He was then elected that year as Member of Parliament for Bramber.. In 1700 Asgill had published ''An Argument Proving, that … Man may be Translated'', a pamphlet aiming to prove that death was not obligatory upon Christians, which, much to his surprise, caused a public outcry and led to his expulsion from the Irish House of Commons in 1703, only a short time after he had stood successfully for Enniscorthy. William Shippen (MP)
William Shippen (''bap''. 30 July 1673 – 1 May 1743) was an English Jacobite and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1707 to 1743. Shippen was educated at Stockport Grammar School, and entered Brasenose College, Oxford on 16 July 1687. Shortly one year after his matriculation he was elected king's scholar at Westminster. Admitted a pensioner of Trinity College, Cambridge on 26 June 1691 he became a scholar there the next year. Shippen went to the Middle Temple in 1693 and graduated with a BA the year after and was called to the bar in 1699., Stephen W. Thomas Windsor, 1st Viscount Windsor
Lieutenant-General Thomas Windsor, 1st Viscount Windsor (8 June 1738), styled The Honourable Thomas Windsor until 1699, was a British Army officer, landowner and Tory politician who sat in the English and British House of Commons between 1685 and 1712. He was then elevated to the British House of Lords as one of Harley's Dozen. Life Windsor was the second son of Thomas Hickman-Windsor, 1st Earl of Plymouth, by his second wife Ursula Widdrington, daughter and co-heiress of Sir Thomas Widdrington, Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer, and Frances Fairfax. He was made a Page of Honour to James II in 1685 (a post he held until the king was deposed in 1688) and a few months later was returned to Parliament for Droitwich, despite being only around sixteen at the time. Sir Samuel Vanacker Sambrooke, 3rd Baronet ( – 27 December 1714) of Bush Hill, Enfield, Middlesex, was a British landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons as MP for Bramber and Great Bedwyn. Background Born Francis Seymour, he was the second son of Sir Edward Seymour, 4th Baronet, by his second wife Letitia, daughter of Alexander Popham. This branch of the Seymour family descended from Sir Edward Seymour, son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset by his first wife Catherine Filliol. His nephew Sir Edward Seymour succeeded as 8th Duke of Somerset in 1750.
