Johannes Servaas Lotsy
Johannes Servaas Lotsy (31 May 1808, in Dordrecht – 4 April 1863, in The Hague) was a Dutch politician. From 1852 to 1856 he was mayor of Dordrecht. Early life Johannes Servaas Lotsy was born 31 May 1808 in Dordrecht. His father was Servaas Hendrik Lotsy secretary of Dordrecht. His mother was Dideria Clasina Aberson. In Breda his grandfather had married a descendant of Johan de Witt's sister Maria, who had married into the influential Hoeufft family. Johannes Lotsy went to the latin school in Dordecht. Here we was taught by rector Fenema and conrector Ross. Lotsy's nephew Jacob Hendrik Hoeufft, a famous Latin poet influenced his love for the classical studies. In 1828 Lotsy went to Leiden University. In 1831 he became a sergeant in the volunteer company of the Leiden students during the Ten Days' Campaign. The Senate ( or simply ' , literally "First Chamber of the States General", or sometimes ' ) is the upper house of the States General, the legislature of the Netherlands. Jan Jacob Rochussen
Jan Jacob Rochussen (; 23 October 1797 – 21 January 1871) was a Dutch politician. He served as Finance Minister from 1840 to 1843 and Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1845 to 1851. He served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers from 18 March 1858 to 23 February 1860. Life and politics Rochussen was born in the town of Etten, North Brabant, on 23 October 1797 to Jan Rochussen, a member of the provincial government, and his wife. In 1815 Rochussen served in a volunteer corps against Napoleon's armies. Rochussen found employment as a tax collector in Schiedam, South Holland beginning in 1814. Over the next twelve years he served as tax collector in 's-Hertogenbosch, Rotterdam, and later Amsterdam. Oud Eik en Duinen is a cemetery in The Hague, the Netherlands, formerly called Eik en Duinen and also nicknamed "the Dutch Père-Lachaise". The cemetery is built around a chapel constructed around 1247 by William II of Holland in honor of his father, Floris IV, Count of Holland. This chapel was partially demolished in 1581, and in the 17th century the area was again used as a cemetery. Willemsoord, Den Helder
Willemsoord is a large former naval base of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder. It is now connected to the city center of Den Helder, and focuses on entertainment and tourism. Nieuwediep harbor: Origin of the naval base In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it became increasingly difficult for big ships to regularly sail to the Dutch cities on the Zuiderzee. Many ships therefore anchored in the Roadstead of Texel, where a lot of transloading was done by small ships that anchored safely in the Nieuwediep. The Nieuwediep was a stretch of deep water close to the coast near what would later become Den Helder, and was well protected by a shoal.
