Johanna Anderson
Johanna Anderson (October 2, 1856 — December 1, 1904) was a missionary in Burma, the first missionary sent abroad from the Swedish Baptist Church in America. Early life Johanna P. Anderson was born in Värmland, Sweden, the daughter of Anders Andersson and Margaretta Christina Larsdotter Andersson. She moved to the United States as a child, with her parents, who settled in a Swedish-immigrant community in Moorhead, Minnesota. Career Anderson became the first Swedish Baptist missionary in 1888, when she sailed to work in Toungoo, teaching Bghai Karen children and overseeing local teachers at a school in Burma. She described her work, and Burmese people and customs, in writings for American publications. She was sponsored by the Woman's Baptist Foreign Missionary Society of the West. Converge (Baptist Organization)
Converge, formerly the Baptist General Conference (BGC) and Converge Worldwide, is an evangelical Baptist Christian denomination in the United States. It is affiliated with the Baptist World Alliance and the National Association of Evangelicals. The headquarters is in Orlando, Florida. The current president of Converge is John K. Jenkins. History The Baptist General Conference grew out of the great revival of the 19th century, but its roots can be traced back to Radical Pietism in Sweden. In 1852 Gustaf Palmquist emigrated from Sweden to the United States. Forty-seven days after his arrival, he and three others organized a Swedish Baptist church in Rock Island, Illinois. Fredrik (F.O.) Nilsson, who was instrumental in leading Palmquist to Baptist views, arrived in America the next year with 21 immigrants. Värmland
Värmland () also known as Wermeland, is a '' landskap'' (historical province) in west-central Sweden. Toungoo
Taungoo (, ''Tauñngu myoú''; ; also spelled Toungoo) is a district-level city in the Bago Region of Myanmar, 220 km from Yangon, towards the north-eastern end of the division, with mountain ranges to the east and west. The main industry is in forestry products, with teak and other hardwoods extracted from the mountains. The city is known for its areca palms, to the extent that a Burmese proverb for unexpected good fortune is equated to a " betel lover winning a trip to Taungoo". The city is famous in Burmese history for the Toungoo dynasty which ruled the country for over 200 years between the 16th and 18th centuries. Loikaw
Loikaw (, ) is the capital of Kayah State in Myanmar. It is located in the Karen Hills area, near the State's northern tip, just above an embayment on the Pilu River. The inhabitants are mostly Kayah (Karenni). Myanmar's largest hydropower plant built (by the Japanese as war reparation) is located about east of Loikaw at Lawpita Falls. The town of Loikaw comprises 13 urban wards, namely Naungya, Daw-ukhu, Mainglon, Mingala, Dhammayon, Zaypaing, Shwetaung, Landama, Dawtanma, Dawnoeku, Shansu, and Minsu wards.
