Johann Friedrich Herbart
Johann Friedrich Herbart (; 4 May 1776 – 14 August 1841) was a German philosopher, psychologist and founder of pedagogy as an academic discipline. Herbart is now remembered amongst the post-Kantian philosophers mostly as making the greatest contrast to Hegel—in particular in relation to aesthetics. His educational philosophy is known as Herbartianism. Life Herbart was born on 4 May 1776 in Oldenburg. Growing up as a fragile child because of an unfortunate accident, Herbart was taught by his mother at home until the age of 12. He continued his schooling at the '' Gymnasium'' for six years, and showed interest in philosophy, logic and Kant's work involving the nature of knowledge obtained from experience with reality. Gustav Hartenstein
Gustav Hartenstein (18 March 1808 – 2 February 1890) was a German philosopher and author. He was one of the most gifted followers of Johann Friedrich Herbart. Biography He was born at Plauen, Saxony, and educated at the Fürstenschule in Grimma. From 1826 he studied at the University of Leipzig, where his teachers were Karl Gottfried Wilhelm Theile, Heinrich Gottlieb Tzschirner, Christian Wilhelm Niedner, Gottfried Hermann, Wilhelm Traugott Krug and Wilhelm Wachsmuth. In 1833 he obtained his habilitation for philosophy with the thesis ''De Archytae Tarentini fragmentis philosophicis'', and in 1836 was named a full professor at the University of Leipzig. In 1848/49 he served as academic rector. He died in Jena. Moritz Wilhelm Drobisch
Moritz Wilhelm Drobisch (16 August 1802 – 30 September 1896) was a German mathematician, logician, psychologist and philosopher. His brother was the composer Karl Ludwig Drobisch (1803–1854). Life Drobisch studied mathematics and philosophy at the University of Leipzig, where he subsequently became a professor. He wrote his ''habilitation'' in 1824. From 1826 to 1868 he served as ''ordinarius'' (full professor) in mathematics, and from 1842 on as ''ordinarius'' in philosophy. He was rector of the university of Leipzig in 1840–41 and served as dean of the philosophical faculty several times. Drobisch made contributions to philosophical and mathematical logic, set theory, quantitative linguistics and empirical psychology. Drobisch was strongly influenced by Johann Friedrich Herbart. Antonio Labriola
Antonio Labriola (; 2 July 1843 – 12 February 1904) was an Italian Marxist theoretician and philosopher. Although an academic philosopher and never an active member of any Marxist political party, his thought exerted influence on many political theorists in Italy during the early 20th century, including the founder of the Italian Liberal Party, Benedetto Croce, and the leaders of the Italian Communist Party, Antonio Gramsci and Amadeo Bordiga. Immanuel Hermann Fichte (; ; ennobled as Immanuel Hermann von Fichte in 1863; 18 July 1796 – 8 August 1879) was a Germans, German Philosophy, philosopher and son of Johann Gottlieb Fichte. Wilhelm Windelband (; ; 11 May 1848 – 22 October 1915) was a German philosopher of the Baden School. Biography Windelband was born the son of a Prussian official in Potsdam. Rudolf Hermann Lotze (; ; 21 May 1817 – 1 July 1881) was a German philosopher and logician. He also had a medical degree and was well versed in biology.
