Johann Brotan
Johann Brotan (24 June 1843 – 20 November 1918) was an Austrian mechanical engineer, specialising in locomotive construction.Kirsche (1978), p. 144. Biography Johann Brotan was born in Klattau, now Klatovy in the Czech Republic. He studied at the Imperial-Royal Polytechnic Institute (''k. k. Polytechnisches Institut'') in Vienna, Austria. He worked for the state telegraph construction department, for Theis Railway Company, the Hungarian Eastern Railway and the Lemberg-Czernowitz-Jassy Railway before joining the Imperial Royal Austrian State Railways (''kaiserlich-königliche österreichische Staatsbahnen'' or ''k.k.St.B.'') in 1890. In 1902 he became the executive of the ''k.k.St.B.'' workshop at Gmünd, later the repair shop at Vienna's '' Westbahnhof''. He retired in 1912 and, according to one source, :de:Johann Brotan died in Vienna on 20 November 1918. Brotan Boiler
A high pressure watertube boiler (also spelled water-tube and water tube) is a type of boiler in which water circulates in tubes heated externally by the fire. Fuel is burned inside the furnace, creating hot gas which boils water in the steam-generating tubes. In smaller boilers, additional generating tubes are separate in the furnace, while larger utility boilers rely on the water-filled tubes that make up the walls of the furnace to generate steam. The heated water/steam mixture then rises into the steam drum. Here, saturated steam is drawn off the top of the drum. In some services, the steam passes through tubes in the hot gas path, (a superheater) to become superheated. Superheated steam is defined as steam that is heated above the boiling point at a given pressure. Superheated steam is a dry gas and therefore is typically used to drive turbines, since water droplets can severely damage turbine blades. Wien Westbahnhof (Vienna West station) is a major Austrian railway station, the original starting point of the West railway (''Westbahn'') and a former terminus of international rail services. In 2015, its role changed with the opening of Vienna's new main station and Westbahnhof now is mainly a commuter station and the terminus of private rail operator WESTbahn's intercity service from Salzburg. Gmünd, Lower Austria
Gmünd ( cz, Cmunt) is a town in the northwestern Waldviertel region of Lower Austria and the capital of the Gmünd district. The municipality consists of the Katastralgemeinden ''Böhmzeil, Breitensee, Eibenstein, Gmünd'' and ''Grillenstein''.
