Johan Egerkrans
Johan Egerkrans (born 1978) is a Swedish illustrator and author, mainly of Fantasy, folklore, and Palaeontology. Having worked as a children's book illustrator since 2005, he achieved great success with his debut as a writer, ''Nordiska väsen'', in 2013. He has been called "a John Bauer in the 21st century". Egerkrans has described himself as interested in mythology and animals from a young age. His first book as writer and illustrator, ''Nordiska Väsen'', was published in 2013, and describes creatures from Nordic folklore. He has subsequently released other books, including ''Nordiska gudar'', ''De odöda'', and ''Drakar''. He has also illustrated books by J. R. R. Tolkien, Astrid Lindgren, and Isaac Bashevis Singer. In 2020, '' Vaesen'' was adapted into a table-top roleplaying game by Free League Publishing. Egerkrans won awards for Best Cover Art, Best Interior Art, and Best Monster at the 2021 ENNIE Awards. ''Svenska Dagbladet'' (, "The Swedish Daily News"), abbreviated SvD, is a daily newspaper published in Stockholm, Sweden. History and profile The first issue of ''Svenska Dagbladet'' appeared on 18 December 1884. During the beginning of the 1900s the paper was one of the right-wing publications in Stockholm. Ivar Anderson is among its former editors-in-chief who assumed the post in 1940. Folklore
Folklore is shared by a particular group of people; it encompasses the traditions common to that culture, subculture or group. Paleontology
Paleontology (), also spelled palaeontology or palæontology, is the scientific study of life that existed prior to, and sometimes including, the start of the Holocene epoch (roughly 11,700 years before present). John Bauer (illustrator)
John Albert Bauer (4 June 1882 – 20 November 1918) was a Swedish painter and illustrator. His work is concerned with landscape and mythology, but he also composed portraits. He is best known for his illustrations of early editions of '' Bland tomtar och troll'' (''Among Gnomes and Trolls''), an anthology of Swedish folklore and fairy tales. Bauer was born and raised in Jönköping. At 16 he moved to Stockholm to study at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts. While there he received his first commissions to illustrate stories in books and magazines, and met the artist Ester Ellqvist, whom he married in 1906. He traveled throughout Lappland, Germany and Italy early in his career, and these cultures deeply informed his work. He painted and illustrated in a romantic nationalistic style, in part influenced by the Italian Renaissance and Sami cultures. Astrid Anna Emilia Lindgren (; ; 14 November 1907 – 28 January 2002) was a Swedish writer of fiction and screenplays. Vaesen is a horror mystery tabletop role-playing game published by Free League Publishing in 2020, with illustrations by Johan Egerkrans. ENNIE Awards
The ENNIE Awards (previously stylized as ENnie Awards) are awards for role-playing game (RPG) products (including game-related accessories, publications, and art) and their creators. The awards were created in 2001 by Russ Morrissey of EN World in partnership with Eric Noah's Unofficial D&D Third Edition News. The ceremony has been hosted at Gen Con in Indianapolis since 2002. Since 2018, EN World is no longer associated with the awards. The ENNIES comprise two rounds. In the first round, publishers submit their products for nomination. Entries are judged by five democratically elected judges. The nominated products are voted on by the public in the second round. ''Drakar och Demoner'' (Swedish language, Swedish for ''Dragons and Demons'', in Sweden commonly referred to by the abbreviation "DoD") is a Sweden, Swedish fantasy role-playing game first published in 1982 by the game publishing company Äventyrsspel ("Adventure Games", later renamed Target Games).
