Joel Whitford
Joel Whitford (born 1 July 1993) is a professional Canadian football punter who is currently a free agent. College career Whitford played college football for the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros in 2015. After sitting out the 2016 season, he joined the Washington Huskies and played for the team from 2017 to 2019. Professional career Hamilton Tiger-Cats Whitford was drafted in the first round, eighth overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2021 CFL Global Draft and signed with the team on 28 April 2021. Punter (football)
A punter (P) in gridiron football is a special teams player who receives the snapped ball directly from the line of scrimmage and then punts (kicks) the football to the opposing team so as to limit any field position advantage. This generally happens on a fourth down in American football and a third down in Canadian football. Punters may also occasionally take part in fake punts in those same situations, when they throw or run the football instead of punting. Skills and usage The purpose of the punt is to force the team that is receiving the kick to start as far as possible from the kicking team's end zone. Accordingly, the most effective punts land just outside the receiving team's end zone and land either out of bounds (making it impossible to advance the ball until the next play) or after being kicked exceptionally high (allowing the kicking team time to run down the field and prevent the punt returner from advancing the ball). The 2022 Hamilton Tiger-Cats season was the 64th season for the team in the Canadian Football League and their 72nd overall. The Canadian Football League (CFL; french: Ligue canadienne de football—LCF) is a professional sports league in Canada. The CFL is the highest level of competition in Canadian football.
