Joe Waldron
Joe Waldron (born 1951 in Milltown, County Galway) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Milltown and was a member of the Galway senior inter-county team in the 1970s. In 1972, Waldron captained Galway to win their first All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship when they defeated Kerry in the final. He lost two consecutive All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Finals with Galway after being beaten by Cork in 1973 and Dublin the following year in 1974. He was a member of both of Milltown's Galway Senior Football Championship winning teams in 1971 and 1981, playing alongside his brother John in both finals. Waldron was also a part of the successful UCD team of the early 1970s, winning a Sigerson Cup in 1972/73. This was the same all-conquering University team that won the Dublin SFC, Leinster Club SFC & All-Ireland Club SFC titles in the 1973/74 season. Milltown (Galway) GAA
Milltown ( Irish: ) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in the Milltown area in County Galway, Ireland which was established in 1953. The Club is one of the longest established sides in Galway. Milltown are a Gaelic football club. Twice winners of the Galway Senior Football Championship, Milltown made their first appearance in a county final in 20 years when they faced Killererin at Pearse Stadium in 2007, but were defeated by a scoreline of 1-09 to 0-10. Former Texaco Footballer of the Year, Noel Tierney, one of the members of Galway's historic "3 In A Row" team, is one of Milltown's best known players. Two Milltown players were part of the Galway Under 21 All-Ireland winning squad in 2002: Diarmaid Blake and John Devane. Combined Universities GAA
Combined Universities GAA was a Gaelic football and hurling team that was made up of players from the major universities of Ireland. The players were taken from St Patrick's College, Maynooth, Queen's University Belfast, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork, University College Dublin, University of Ulster at Jordanstown, and University College Galway. In the 1980s Combined Advanced Colleges GAA (Combined Colleges) joined in to make the annual contests between Combined Universities, Army (Defence Forces) and Garda a quadrangular tournament. All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament which began in season 1970–71. It is the top-tier competition for the senior football clubs of Ireland and London. The current champions are Kilcoo of Down who defeated Kilmacud Crokes of Dublin on 12 February 2022 to win their first title. The current trophy is the Andy Merrigan Cup, named after a footballer who played for Castletown Liam Mellows and Wexford who died as a result of a farm accident at the height of his playing career. Leinster Senior Club Football Championship
The Leinster Senior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament played on a knockout basis between the senior club championship winners of the competing counties in Leinster. The current holders of the Leinster title are Ballyboden St. Enda's from Dublin. Offaly side Gracefield were the first winners of the Leinster senior club football championship in the 1970–71 season. The most successful clubs are St. Vincent's from Dublin and Portlaoise from Laois, who have won the Leinster championship on seven occasions. The Connacht Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition for the senior county teams of Connacht GAA. All of the counties of Connacht participate in the championship, as well as counties London and New York. The winning team receives the Nestor Cup.
