Joe Strell
Joe Strell is an American bass player and songwriter. He was a member of The Imports (1980–81) and ¡Ack-Ack! (1984–86). In 1986 he founded Dansbane Eländet recording studios and began releasing cassette albums under the name Split Heavens. Biography The Imports Joe Strell began his musical career in 1980 as songwriter and bassist for The Imports, one of Chicago's first punk rock / post punk bands, which was named after their favorite section in the Wax Trax record bins. The Imports entertained local audiences with their dark minimalism, playing in alternative dance clubs including Ann Arkees, Tuts, Ruts, Waves, Gaspar's, Huey's, Jamie's Elsewhere, and the Lucky Number. The final lineup of The Imports consisted of Ben Krug (vocals), Tom Krug (guitar), Joe Strell (bass), and Tom Wall (drums). Rickenbacker International Corporation is a string instrument manufacturer based in Santa Ana, California. The company is credited as the first known maker of electric guitars – a steel guitar in 1932 – and today produces a range of electric guitars and basses. Shotgun Wedding
A shotgun wedding is a wedding which is arranged in order to avoid embarrassment due to premarital sex which can possibly lead to an unintended pregnancy. The phrase is a primarily American colloquialism, termed as such based on a stereotypical scenario in which the father of the pregnant bride-to-be threatens the reluctant groom with a shotgun in order to ensure that he follows through with the wedding. Lanterna
Lanterna is a musical project led by guitarist Henry Frayne, formerly of Lodestone Destiny, The Syndicate, Ack-Ack, Area and The Moon Seven Times. Their tracks are evocative soundscapes, usually instrumental, that focus on Frayne's melodic guitar work awash in effects. History The first material released under the name Lanterna was a collaboration between Frayne, drummer Brendan Gamble and vocalist Lynn Canfield which the band self-released in 1992. Some of these tracks reappeared later that year on the Greek vinyl-only, Elfish label release ''Of Shapes That Haunt Thought's Wilderness''. The recordings were re-released on both Parasol Records and Rykodisc in 1995 and 1998, respectively. The Rykodisc version led off with the song "Silent Hills." The track later appeared on the first disc of National Public Radio's "All Songs Considered" CD series, which collected songs used as interstitial music during All Things Considered. ''Third Mind Records'' was a British independent record label, founded in February 1983 by Gary Levermore. Name The label derived its name from the book ''The Third Mind'', a work compiled by Beat Generation author William S. Burroughs and artist Brion Gysin using the cut-up technique. History ''Third Mind'' originated from the group and fanzine ''Tone Death'' that Levermore had founded in the middle of 1982 together with two friends. Henry David Frayne (born January 26, 1965) is an Irish-American musician. Frayne was the second guitarist of three in the long history of Champaign, Illinois' Ack-Ack, where he met Lynn Canfield, Brendan Gamble, Steve Shields and Joe Strell. He was a founding member of Area and The Moon Seven Times — new wave/ethereal music groups also from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Through the 1980s, Frayne's music engaged the interest of fans and music professionals — culminating in the signing of The Moon Seven Times to Third Mind Records which subsequently became a part of Roadrunner Records (later to become a part of Warner Music Group.) Brendan Gamble
Brendan Gamble (born 1966) is an American singer-songwriter, producer and engineer. A native of Urbana, Illinois, Gamble was the formative figure behind, and second drummer of the post-wave group Poster Children. When Gamble joined the band in 1988, they had played mostly simple pop material featuring traditional verse-chorus structure and 4/4 time signature. Among his creative projects after leaving Poster Children, Gamble was invited to perform with an existing trio—three-quarters of the Champaign-Urbana band Obvious Man—and became the new singer and rhythm guitarist in the group, which was renamed Stark. Gamble also was an engineer on the seminal emo album American Football, recorded at Private Studios in Urbana, Illinois, and released in 1999.
