Joe Martin (writer)
Joe Martin (pen name Yousef Daoud; born 1953 Norwalk, Connecticut) is a playwright, author, academic and theater director. Martin has written two volumes of fiction, theatrical works, and essays on theater, arts in the Middle East, and religion. He is a senior lecturer in theatre arts and studies (and the writing seminars) at Johns Hopkins University. Education Martin received his undergraduate education at George Washington University where he studied American literature and creative writing. At the University of Bergen in Norway, he took exams in comparative literature in 1979. Martin took his MFA in creative writing with a concentration in play writing at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where he also studied directing in the Department of Theatre. A dramaturge or dramaturg is a literary adviser or editor in a theatre, opera, or film company who researches, selects, adapts, edits, and interprets scripts, libretti, texts, and printed programmes (or helps others with these tasks), consults authors, and does public relations work. Its modern-day function was originated by the innovations of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, an 18th-century German playwright, philosopher, and dramatic theory, theatre theorist. The Ghost Sonata
''The Ghost Sonata'' ( sv, Spöksonaten, links=no) is a play in three acts by the Swedish playwright August Strindberg. Written in 1907, it was first produced at Strindberg's Intimate Theatre in Stockholm on 21 January 1908. Since then, it has been staged by such notable directors as Max Reinhardt, Olof Molander, Roger Blin, and Ingmar Bergman. Bergman directed it four times: in 1941, 1954, 1973, and 2000. Strindberg took the title from Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 17 in D minor, which he called 'The Gespenster Sonata', and also Piano Trio No. 5 in D major, known as the 'Ghost Trio'. ''The Ghost Sonata'' is a key text in the development of modernist drama and a vivid example of a chamber play. Jens Bjørneboe
Jens Ingvald Bjørneboe (9 October 1920 – 9 May 1976) was a Norwegian writer whose work spanned a number of literary formats. He was also a painter and a Waldorf school teacher. Bjørneboe was a harsh and eloquent critic of Norwegian society and Western civilization as a whole. He led a turbulent life and his uncompromising opinions cost him both an obscenity conviction as well as long periods of heavy drinking and bouts of depression, which in the end led to his suicide. Jens Bjørneboe's first published work was ''Poems'' (''Dikt'') in 1951. He is widely considered to be one of Norway's most important post-war authors. Bjørneboe identified himself, among other self-definitions, as an anarcho-nihilist.
