Joe Lofthouse
Joseph Morris Lofthouse (14 April 1865 – 10 June 1919) was an English people, English association football, footballer. Playing career Joseph Lofthouse was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, Blackburn on 14 April 1865. A talented footballer he joined Blackburn Rovers, in 1882, from King's Own Lancaster Regiment who he signed for as a Youth player in 1881. Although only 18 years old he was a member of the team in the 1883–84 season. After Blackburn Rovers beat Notts County F.C., Notts County in the semi-final of the FA Cup, the club made an official complaint to the Football Association (FA) that John Inglis (footballer, born 1859), John Inglis was a professional player. The FA carried out an investigation into the case discovered that Inglis was working as a mechanic in Glasgow and was not earning a living playing football for Blackburn. Blackburn () is an industrial town and the administrative centre of the Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire, England. The town is north of the West Pennine Moors on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley, east of Preston and north-northwest of Manchester. 1885 FA Cup Final
The 1885 FA Cup Final was a football match between Blackburn Rovers and Queen's Park on 4 April 1885 at Kennington Oval in London. It was the fourteenth final of the world's oldest football competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup (known in the modern era as the FA Cup). Blackburn had won the Cup in the previous season while Queen's Park were competing in their second final with the previous final being previous year. Billy Townley
William James Townley (14 February 1866 – 30 May 1950) was an English football player and coach. He scored the first hat-trick in the history of the FA Cup final, but his lasting legacy is defined as an important pioneer of the game in Germany, leading Karlsruher FV and SpVgg Fürth to three German championships as a coach. Playing career Townley's career as a player began with Blackburn Swifts F.C., where he played for one season. He than joined Blackburn Olympic for two seasons. His playing position at Swifts and Olympic was centre-forward. He joined Blackburn Rovers in 1886 and switched to the left winger spot. Townleys technique to deter defending full-backs was to throw his arms up in the air, thus startling his opponent; Townley swept past to make an attack. 1890 FA Cup Final
The 1890 FA Cup Final was contested by Blackburn Rovers and The Wednesday at the Kennington Oval. Blackburn won 6–1 with goals scored by William Townley (3), Nat Walton, Jack Southworth and Joe Lofthouse. The Wednesday's goal was scored by Albert Mumford. Townley's hat-trick was the first in an FA Cup Final. Haydn Arthur Morley, who was Wednesday's captain in the final, earned his living as a solicitor. The match was the last of seven consecutive and eight total finals officiated by Major Francis Marindin of the Royal Engineers, a veteran of the Crimean War. Jack Southworth
John Southworth (11 December 1866 – 16 October 1956), also known as Jack and Skimmy Southworth, was an English footballer who played in the early days of professional football for Blackburn Rovers and Everton as well as being capped three times for England. He was the top scorer in the Football League in 1890–91 and 1893–94. Playing career Early career He began his football career at the age of 7 when he helped form a junior club named Inkerman Rangers. In the 1885–86 season, despite having signed professional for Chester FC earlier in the season, he turned out for Blackburn Olympic in their First Round FA Cup match. Nat Walton
Nathaniel Walton (28 May 1867 – 3 March 1930) was an English international footballer, who played as an inside forward. Career Born in Preston, Walton played professionally for Blackburn Rovers, and earned one cap for England in 1890. Like so many other players of his era, Walton graduated through local football to join the ranks of Blackburn Rovers at a time when the club was becoming the dominant force in the town. He was an industrious inside-forward who earned himself a regular place in the endless round of friendly fixtures during the 1884–1885 season. Unfortunately, he looked destined to continually miss out on the big occasions when he was overlooked for the FA Cup Finals of 1885 and 1886. Geordie Dewar
George Dewar (20 July 1867 – 2 September 1915) was a Scottish footballer who played in the early days of professional football for Blackburn Rovers as well as being capped twice for Scotland. Playing career Dewar was born in Dumbarton, Scotland; he served his apprenticeship as a ship's upholsterer before embarking on a full-time career as a professional footballer. A powerful centre half, he came to prominence in local football with Dumbarton Athletic before joining Dumbarton in September 1887, winning his two caps in the two subsequent years. His first cap came on 24 March 1888 in the British Home Championship match at the Solitude Ground, Belfast where he scored the opening goal in the 10–2 rout of Ireland. John Forbes (footballer)
John Forbes (13 January 1862 – 31 January 1928) was a Scottish footballer who played in the English Football League for Blackburn Rovers. Club career Vale of Leven Forbes began his career as a forward with Star of Leven. In 1879 he joined Vale of Leven, again as a forward, but was quickly converted into a half-back and then full-back due to his pace. While playing for the ''Vale'' he appeared in two Scottish Cup Finals, in 1883 and 1885, but had the misfortune to be on the losing side to local rivals on both occasions. The 1883 final was played at the first Hampden Park on 31 March 1883 and the opposition was Dumbarton; it ended 2–2. In the replay, also at Hampden on 7 April, Dumbarton won 2–1. William Thomas Brandon (3 October 1867 – 24 November 1941) was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Blackburn Rovers (where he won the FA Cup in 1891) and Sheffield Wednesday. He gained one cap for Scotland in 1896, being one of five men who were the first to be selected while playing for an English club, and in the process becoming Blackburn's first international for that nation. Thomas Brown Mitchell (c. 1843 in Dumfries – August 1921) was a two-time FA Cup winning Scottish football manager. Early years Thomas Mitchell was born in Dumfries but moved south of the border ''c.''1867. Blackburn Rovers Mitchell became secretary-manager of Blackburn Rovers in 1887. The club then went on to win two FA Cups in 1890 and 1891. The final win in 1891 was against the Notts County side featuring David Calderhead. Mitchell left Blackburn after 9 years as manager in 1896.
