Joe Lewis (baseball)
Joseph Herman Lewis (January 17, 1895 – October, 1986), nicknamed "Sleepy", was an American Negro league catcher in the 1920s and 1930s. A native of Drakes Branch, Virginia, Lewis made his Negro leagues debut in 1920 with the Baltimore Black Sox. He spent many years playing for the Hilldale Club, and was part of their 1925 Colored World Series championship team. Lewis died in Portsmouth, Virginia Portsmouth is an independent city in southeast Virginia and across the Elizabeth River from Norfolk. As of the 2020 census, the population was 97,915. According to the ''Sunday Times Rich List'' in 2021, Lewis has a net worth of £4.33 billion, an increase of £338 million from 2020. Lewis is majority owner of the Premier League football team Tottenham Hotspur. Early life Lewis was born to a Jewish family above a public house in Roman Road, Bow, London. Lewis left school at 15 to help run his father's West End catering business, Tavistock Banqueting. When he took the reins, he quickly expanded it by selling luxury goods to American tourists, and also owned West End club the Hanover Grand, where he gave Robert Earl his first job. Joseph Henry Lewis (March 7, 1944 – August 31, 2012) was an American karateka, kickboxer, and actor. As a fighter, Lewis gained fame for his matches in the 1960s and 1970s, and was nicknamed "the Muhammad Ali of karate." He has twice been voted the greatest fighter in karate history, having won innumerable karate tournaments, and has attained the titles of "United States Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion," "World Heavyweight Full Contact Karate Champion," and "United States National Black Belt Kata Champion." His friend and training partner Bruce Lee coined him "The Greatest Karate Fighter of All Time." Joe Lewis (Joseph S. Lewis III; born 1953 in New York City) is a post-conceptual non-media specific American artist and educator. Lewis was co-founding director of Fashion Moda in New York, where he curated and mounted numerous exhibitions and performance events. He also early on has been associated with Colab and ABC No Rio Life and work Lewis received his bachelor’s in 1975 from Hamilton College, and then his M.F.A. in 1989 from Maryland Institute. Joseph Louis Barrow (May 13, 1914 – April 12, 1981) was an American professional boxer who competed from 1934 to 1951. Nicknamed the Brown Bomber, Louis is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential boxers of all time.
