Joe Anglin
Joseph V. Anglin is an American-born Canadian politician who lives in Rimbey, Alberta, Canada. He was the leader of the Alberta Greens from 2008 until its dissolution in 2009. Since April 23, 2012, he sat as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre. He was a member of the Wildrose Party until he left its caucus on November 2, 2014. He sat as an independent until his defeat in the 2015 Alberta general election. Early life Anglin was born in Massachusetts. He served in the United States Marine Corps and worked as a police officer in the 1970s. He moved to Canada and obtained Canadian citizenship in 1995. He served in the Canadian Coast Guard for six years. Anglin founded and acted as CEO of ASIG Inc., which operated as an international financial services firm, which specialized in trading derivatives, oil contracts, gas contracts and currencies. 2012 Alberta General Election
The 2012 Alberta general election was held on April 23, 2012, to elect members of the 28th Legislative Assembly of Alberta. A Senate nominee election was called for the same day. During the 2011 Progressive Conservative Association leadership election, eventual winner Alison Redford stated that if she became Premier she intended to pass legislation setting a fixed election date. After taking office, her government introduced a bill relating to the timing of elections, which was passed on December 6, 2011. Unlike other fixed election date legislation in Canada, the 2011 Election Amendment Act fixes the election to a three-month period, between March 1 and May 31 in the fourth calendar year. Ray Prins
Raymond Frank "Ray" Prins (born April 15, 1951) is a Canadian politician and was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Lacombe-Ponoka as a Progressive Conservative. Early life Prins was born April 15, 1951 in Lacombe, Alberta. After high school, he worked a variety of agriculture and construction jobs, including two years in oilfield construction northeast of Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, and a year in refinery maintenance in Edmonton. In 1974, Prins bought a farm near Gull Lake, Alberta where he grew grain and hay, and raised cattle, hogs, elk and bison. Political career Prins was elected to a second term representing the constituency of Lacombe-Ponoka in the 2008 provincial election, where he received 58 per cent of the vote. 2008 Alberta General Election
The 2008 Alberta general election was held on March 3, 2008, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. It was expected to be called early because the governing Progressive Conservatives held a leadership election on December 2, 2006, in which Ed Stelmach was elected to replace Ralph Klein as party leader and Premier. The election was called when Stelmach formally advised Lieutenant Governor Norman Kwong to dissolve the Legislature, which happened on February 4, 2008. With 53% of the popular vote, the Progressive Conservatives won a decisive majority over the Liberal and other parties, despite early suggestions of a closer race. The 2008 election had the lowest voter turnout in the province's history, with only 40.59% of eligible voters casting a ballot. Rimbey, Alberta
Rimbey is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located at the junction of Highways 20 and 53 in the Blindman River valley area approximately northwest of Red Deer and southwest of Edmonton. Provincially, Rimbey is part of the Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre electoral district and federally in the Wetaskiwin riding. History Officially made a community in 1902, the first name given to the settlement at the turn of the century was Kansas Ridge as many of the settlers originated from the American state of Kansas. Among them were the three Rimbey brothers (Sam, Ben, and Jim) for whom the town was officially named after in 1904.
