Joaquín Ezpeleta Enrile
Joaquín Ezpeleta Enrile (born 19 September 1788) was a Spanish politician and Spanish Army general officer who served as the 15th President of the Spanish Senate. During his life, he served in many military and civil offices such as a member of the Cortes Generales, Minister of the Crown and Civil Governor of Jaen, Captain-General of Cuba, Captain-General of Catalonia or Viceroy of Navarre, among others. Biography Ezpeleta was the son of the Count of Ezpeleta de Beire, Governor-General of Cuba from 1785 to 1789 and Viceroy of Nueva Granada from 1789 to 1797, and nephew of Pasqual Enrile y Alcedo, Governor-General of the Philippines. In late 1807 his father was appointed Captain-General of Catalonia and Ezpeleta was with him when the French troops, commanded by General Duhesme, attacked the city of Barcelona in 1808. Guillaume Philibert, 1st Count Duhesme, () born on 7 July 1766 in Mercurey (formerly ''Bourgneuf''), Burgundy, killed on the 20th June 1815 near Waterloo, was a French general, politician and writer during the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. He was a commander of the Imperial Guard, Governor of Catalonia and a Peer of France. Napoleon wrote that "he was a fearless soldier, covered with wounds and of the greatest bravery, an accomplished general, who always stood firm in good and bad fortune". Duhesme is widely regarded as one of the greatest infantry generals of the Napoleonic Wars. Revolution Duhesme was born in a family of the haute bourgeoisie in Bourgneuf, Saône-et-Loire. Pasqual Enrile y Alcedo (13 April 1772 – 6 January 1836), a native of Cádiz, Spain, was the Spanish governor-general of the Philippines from December 23, 1830, to March 1, 1835. He was among the most illustrious rulers of the archipelago, on account of his ability, uprightness, and zeal for the public welfare. Enrile was especially active in building highways and providing other means of communication to bring the inland and the maritime provinces into communication with each other. The Captaincy General of Cuba () was an administrative district of the Spanish Empire created in 1607 as part of Habsburg Spain's attempt to better defend and administer its Caribbean possessions. The reform also established captaincies general in Captaincy General of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico, Captaincy General of Guatemala, Guatemala and Captaincy General of Yucatán, Yucatán. The restructuring of the Captaincy General in 1764 was the first example of the Bourbon Reforms in America.
