Nueva Planta Decrees
The Nueva Planta decrees ( es, link=no, Decretos de Nueva Planta, ca, Decrets de Nova Planta, en, link=no, "Decrees of the New Plant") were a number of decrees signed between 1707 and 1716 by Philip V, the first Bourbon King of Spain, during and shortly after the end of the War of the Spanish Succession by the Treaty of Utrecht. The Decrees put an end to the existence of the realms of the Crown of Aragon (Aragon, Catalonia, Valencia and Majorca) as separate political entities within a common monarchy and incorporated them into the Crown of Castile, essentially establishing the Kingdom of Spain as a French-style absolute monarchy. Theodor von Reding (5 July 1755 – 23 April 1809) was a Swiss mercenary who served as a general in the Spanish Army. He was a governor and military commander in Spain, leading troops against French forces during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Peninsular War. Biography Reding was born in Schwyz, Switzerland, to Theodor Anton von Reding and Magdalena Freuler. His father served as a lieutenant-colonel in the Spanish Army. His brother was Alois von Reding. Juan Miguel de Vives y Feliu or Joan Miquel Vives i Feliu (died 24 April 1809) was a Spanish general who commanded a division during the French Revolutionary Wars and briefly led an army in the Napoleonic Wars. He was described as a native of Girona. In 1794 he capably led a division against the French in the War of the Pyrenees. He led his division at the battles of Boulou and the Black Mountain in the eastern Pyrenees. In 1796 he was posted to Cartagena and in 1799 he became Captain General of Mallorca. Soon after the outbreak of the Peninsular War in 1808, the Spanish Junta named him Captain General of Catalonia. Charles Mathieu Isidore Decaen (, 13 April 1769 – 9 September 1832) was a French general who served during the French Revolutionary Wars, as Governor General of Pondicherry and the Isle de France (now Mauritius) and as commander of the Army of Catalonia during the Napoleonic Wars.
