UK Beach Tour
The UK Beach Tour (UKBT) is the United Kingdom's national competition for beach volleyball players, coordinated in partnership with Volleyball England. It was started in 2018 by Commonwealth Games Team England player Jake Shaef, and now delivers over 70 beach volleyball events annually at venues around the UK, catering for all levels of ability, from entry level to elite. A Junior Tour was introduced in 2021, though experienced juniors can also play in adult events. The tournaments are organised by individuals and clubs, in line with UKBT guidance. Participant players are awarded points based on their ranking in UK and international tournaments, and these are coordinated into a national ranking system. Smithfield, Birmingham
Smithfield was an inner-city area of Birmingham, England, southeast of the Bull Ring markets. Smithfield Market The area was originally the site of the Birmingham Manor House in which the De Birmingham family had lived for centuries. The house had fallen into decay, a situation it had been in many times since the 16th century. The manor house was purchased by the Birmingham Street Commissioners from Sir Thomas Gooch. The house was demolished and the moat filled in in 1816. Twelve feet of silt was removed from the moat. The establishment of a market in the area was made possible by the lack of density of the buildings and was described in 1848 as "a spacious area." The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Rankings is a ranking system for men's and women's national teams in beach volleyball. The teams of the member nations of the FIVB, beach volleyball and volleyball's world governing body, are ranked based on their competition results with the most successful teams being ranked highest. The ranking is based on the 8 best results over the last 365 days. They are updated every Monday after an FIVB recognized event. The rankings are used in international competitions to define the seeded teams and arrange them in pools. The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour (known between 2003 and 2012 as the FIVB Beach Volleyball Swatch World Tour for sponsorship reasons) was the worldwide professional beach volleyball tour for both men and women organized by the ' ( FIVB), the sport's global governing body.
