Joan Dewhirst
Joan Dewhirst (1935 – 14 April 2020) was a British figure skater who competed in ice dance. Skating career Dewhirst was born in Manchester, England. She began skating at age 11, and progressed quickly through the testing levels in figures, ice dance, and pairs. At the age of 14, Joan formed a dance partnership with John Slater and within a year were the silver medalists in the 1951 International Ice Dance Competition in Milan (forerunner to the World Ice Dance Championships). Joan and Jack trained in Manchester with Jack Wake, and also London by Gladys Hogg (famed British figure skating coach of the 1940s-1980s). Shortly after the Milan championship, Joan and John won the first of their three British Ice Dance Championships. With partner John Slater, she won silver medals at the first two World Championships in ice dance: in 1952 and 1953. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. Lloyd Jones (born 1 August 1988) is a Welsh-French former competitive ice dancer. He represented France from 2009 to 2014. With Pernelle Carron, he is the 2011 Cup of China bronze medalist, 2013 Winter Universiade champion, 2010 Cup of Nice champion, three-time NRW Trophy champion, and 2010 French national champion. John Kerr (figure Skater)
John Alastair Kerr (born 2 June 1980 in Broxburn, Scotland) is a Scottish former competitive ice dancer who represented Great Britain with his sister Sinead Kerr. Together, they are two-time (2009, 2011) European bronze medalists and the 2004–2010 British national champions. The Kerrs retired from competitive skating in April 2011. Sinead Houston Kerr (born 30 August 1978) is a Scottish former competitive ice dancer who represented Great Britain. She teamed up with her brother John Kerr in 2000. They are two-time (2009, 2011) European bronze medalists and the 2004–2010 British national champions. Nicky Slater
Nicholas Mark Slater (born 6 April 1958) is a former ice dancer and TV and theatrical performer. Personal life Slater's parents, Joan Dewhirst Slater and John Slater, competed together in ice dancing, winning silver at the 1952 and 1953 World Championships. They were also World Professional champions. They retired to coach at Liverpool Rink then Manchester Ice Palace and finally Altrincham Ice Rink. Karen Barber (born 21 June 1961 in Manchester) is a British ice dancer. She is the 1983 European bronze medalist and competed at two Olympics with partner Nicky Slater. Skating career Barber won the silver medal at the 1977 World Junior Championships with partner Kim Spreyer. When that partnership ended, she teamed up with Nicky Slater.
