Joachim Stünker
Joachim Stünker (born 29 March 1948 in Langwedel) is a German politician and member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1998 to 2009, where he was a legal policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group 2002 to 2009. Education After graduating from the Gymnasium am Wall in Verden/Aller in 1967, Stünker studied law at the Free University of Berlin and the Georg August University of Göttingen, which he completed in 1973 with the first state law examination. After completing his legal clerkship, he passed the second state examination in 1975 and has since worked as a judge, since 1990 as presiding judge at the District Court of Verden. Political career Stünker joined the SPD as a schoolboy in 1965. Bundestag
The Bundestag (, "Federal Diet") is the German federal parliament. It is the only federal representative body that is directly elected by the German people. It is comparable to the United States House of Representatives or the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. The Bundestag was established by Title III of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany (, ) in 1949 as one of the legislative bodies of Germany and thus it is the historical successor to the earlier Reichstag. 2005 German Federal Election
Federal elections were held in Germany on 18 September 2005 to elect the members of the 16th Bundestag. The snap election was called after the government's defeat in a state election, which caused them to intentionally lose a motion of confidence to trigger an early federal election. The outgoing government was a coalition of the centre-left Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) and Alliance 90/The Greens, led by federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. The election was originally intended for the autumn of 2006. The opposition Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU), with its sister party the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU), started the campaign with a strong lead over the SPD in opinion polls. The Christian Democratic Union of Germany (german: link=no, Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands ; CDU ) is a Christian democratic and liberal conservative political party in Germany. The Parliamentary Oversight Panel (PKGr) is a committee of the German Bundestag responsible for oversight of the intelligence agencies of Germany. The PKGr monitors the Federal Intelligence Service (BND; german: Bundesnachrichtendienst), the Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD; german: Militärischer Abschirmdienst), and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV; german: Bundesverfassungsschutz). Andreas Mattfeldt (born 28 September 1969) is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) who has been serving as a member of the Bundestag from the state of Lower Saxony since 2009.
