Jitendra Nath Gohain
Jitendra Nath Gohain (d. 1 October 2018) was an Indian surgeon. He was the president of the Association of Rural Surgeons of India, and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Nagaon branch. He also was a member of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons. In 1981, he established the P & K Memorial Nursing Home at Nagaon. In 2006, he was awarded the Chikitsa Ratna Award. Born in Nagaon, he completed his MBBS at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, and went to London for his residency. There he worked with British medical doctors like orthopaedist Alan Graham Apley. In 1971, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and returned to Assam to serve the society. In 2007, his biography ''Jeebonjoyi Dr. Jitendra Nath Gohain: Tyaag aaru Adarkha'', was written by journalist Khekhab Gogoi, which remains unpublished. Indian Medical Association
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) is a national voluntary organisation of physicians in India. It was established in 1928 as the All India Medical Association, and was renamed the Indian Medical Association in 1930. It is a society registered under The Societies Act of India. Background The Indian Medical Association has approximately 350,000 member doctors in 1,700 active local branches in 29 states and union territories in India. It is the largest association of medical doctors in India. Previously stationed out of Calcutta, the IMA is headquartered in New Delhi. Local branches send representatives to a central council which meets annually. The council delegates to a working committee that represents all state branches and meets at least three times a year. Nagaon
Nagaon (previously Nowgong; Assamese নগাঁও), is a town and a municipal board in Nagaon district in the Indian state of Assam. It is situated east of Guwahati. History This division was organised on the both banks of Kalang river by Momai Tamuli Borbarua in 1611 during the reign of Pratap Singha. Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery ( la, Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae; abbreviated most commonly MBBS), is the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. Alan Graham Apley
Alan Graham Apley FRCS (10 November 1914, London – 20 December 1996) was a British orthopaedic surgeon and educator known for his textbook, ''Apley's System of Orthopaedics and Fractures'', and for the Apley grind test in meniscal injury. Biography Alan Apley was born in London in 1914, the youngest son of Polish Jewish immigrants. He studied medicine at University College Hospital, qualifying MBBS in 1938. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1941. He served in the Army Medical Corps in Burma during the Second World War. After completing his training, he became a consultant at the Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Hospital, Pyrford, where he started his FRCS course in 1948. The "Pyrford Postgraduate Course", which became known as the "Apley Course", continued twice yearly for many years, with over 5,000 trainees attending them. The Royal College of Surgeons is an ancient college (a form of corporation) established in England to regulate the activity of surgeons. Derivative organisations survive in many present and former members of the Commonwealth. These organisations are now also responsible for training surgeons and setting their examinations.
