Jimmy Binning
James Binning (21 December 1922 – 1991) was a Scottish footballer who played for Arbroath and Dumfries side Queen of the South. Career From the season 1948–1949 until his departure, Binning scored six goals in his 84 league games for Arbroath. Binning was a 1951 signing from Arbroath for Queen of the South. Half a century later another distinguished player would make the same journey, Jim Thomson. Binning gave Queens seven years service at full-back, playing 288 senior games for Queens. When Binning arrived at Queens already there were Scotland cap Billy Houliston, goalkeeper Roy Henderson, fellow full back Dougie Sharpe and forward Jim Patterson (251 strikes makes Patterson the goals king of Queens). Goal scoring winger Bobby Black joined in 1952. At different levels all six would be selected to represent Scotland except Henderson who was selected six times as reserve goalkeeper. Ernest 'Ernie' Hannigan (23 January 1943 – 21 May 2015) was a Scottish footballer. Hannigan was a fast, tricky, right winger. Jimmy Greenock
James Greenock (5 April 1930 – April 2005) was a former Scottish professional footballer who played as a left half for Queen of the South. Career Jimmy Greenock was born in Motherwell and was originally a Motherwell supporter. Greenock was keen to play for them, however despite two trials and scoring for them he failed to earn a contract as he wasn't home when they tried to contact him. During his career he played predominantly as left half which would be a modern-day central midfielder. Greenock started his playing career at Wishaw Juniors before joining the ''Doonhamers'' in July 1951. Greenock played for Queens for eight seasons in the First Division from 1951 to 1959 in what was considered their most successful era under manager Jimmy McKinnell Junior. During his time at Dumfries Greenock made 188 league appearances scoring 13 goals. George Farm
George Neil Farm (13 July 1924 – 18 July 2004) was a Scottish professional football goalkeeper and manager. Born in Slateford, a suburb of Edinburgh, Farm represented his country on ten occasions, the last three of which occurred after a gap of five years. He played briefly for Hibernian before making over 500 appearances for Blackpool winning the FA Cup once and collecting one FA Cup runners-up medal. With Blackpool he also finished runners-up once in the league to Manchester United. He made over 100 appearances for Queen of the South who he also managed in a promotion to Scotland's top division. he repeated that promotion managing Raith Rovers. Ivor Broadis
Ivan Arthur "Ivor" Broadis (18 December 1922 – 12 April 2019) was an English professional footballer. During a career spanning nineteen years from 1942 to 1961, Broadis represented Carlisle United, Sunderland, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Queen of the South, gaining 14 caps and scoring eight goals for England at international level. Broadis played at inside forward; after retiring from playing in 1961, he pursued a career as a football journalist. He was the oldest surviving England international footballer until his death in April 2019 at the age of 96. Early days Broadis was born in Isle of Dogs, Poplar, London. During the Second World War he completed 500 flying hours in Royal Air Force Wellingtons and Lancasters, although he was never on a bombing mission. During the war he had guested as an amateur for Tottenham Hotspur among other clubs. Bobby Black (Scottish Footballer)
Bobby Black (c.1927 – 4 June 2012) was a Scottish footballer from Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway who played for East Fife and Queen of the South and was also capped by the Scottish League. Black later was an all England bowls champion. East Fife Having played at East Fife during undoubtedly the best period in the club's history Black won a League Cup medal with them in 1949–50. The Methil side made the Scottish Cup final that season and finished fourth in Scotland's top division. Two seasons later (Bobby Black's last at the club) they would surpass this league position and finish third – an achievement unsurpassed by the club and equalled only once. Jim Patterson (Scottish Footballer)
James Patterson (c. 1928 – 16 December 2012) was a Scottish professional footballer. Patterson is the all-time record goalscorer for Dumfries club Queen of the South, with 251 goals. Early years Patterson was playing for Luncarty in his native Perthshire, with his performances catching the attentions of onlooking scouts. One of these was from Queens, who, rather than move for the big forward, were waiting for his demob from the army. This nearly cost the Dumfries club dear. Patterson was invited to spend a weekend with Manchester City for a trial and a look around. An ex-Queens player, Jackie Oakes, was at City at the time and made arrangements for Patterson's accommodation in anticipation of his extended stay. Dumfries
Dumfries ( ; sco, Dumfries; from gd, Dùn Phris ) is a market town and former royal burgh within the Dumfries and Galloway council area of Scotland. It is located near the mouth of the River Nith into the Solway Firth about by road from the Anglo-Scottish border and just away from Cumbria by air. Jackie Oakes (6 December 1919 – 3 December 1995) was a Scottish footballer who played for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Queen of the South, Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City. Born in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, his position was left winger. Oakes died three days before his 76th birthday. Wolverhampton Wanderers Oakes started his senior football career in England with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1935 signed by Major Frank Buckley.
