Jim Thijs
Jim Thijs (born 13 June 1980 in Leuven) is a Belgians, Belgian pro triathlete. At the 2010 Xterra Triathlon World Championships, he finished 10th. In 1995 Thijs raced his first triathlon in Aarschot. He had a very hard time to finish the 750m in Freestyle swimming, freestyle, the breaststroke swimmers exited the water with him. From 1996 he started focusing on triathlon, leaving the other sports behind him. In 2003, 2004 and 2005 Thijs' main goal was doing Ironman Triathlon, Ironman races. He won Ironman Malaysia and Ironman Lanzarote in the 18–24 age group. He qualified for Ironman Hawaii twice. Finishing 87th was his best result. After 3 years of Ironman training Thijs decided to stop practicing triathlon and start doing mountainbiking instead. In his first Xterra races, Thijs was able to place himself amongst the best of Europe. Ironman Hawaii
The Ironman World Championship has been held annually in Hawaii since 1978, with an additional race in 1982. It is owned and organized by the World Triathlon Corporation. It is the annual culmination of a series of Ironman triathlon qualification races held throughout the world. Trail Running
Trail running is a sport-activity which combines running, and, where there are steep gradients, hiking, that is run "on any unpaved surface". It is similar to both mountain and fell running (also known as hill running). Mountain running may, however, include paved sections. Trail running normally takes place in warm climates, or on good paths, or tracks which are relatively easy to follow, and does not necessarily involve the significant amounts of ascent, or need for navigating skills, normal in fell running. Unlike road running and track running it generally takes place on hiking trails, often in mountainous terrain, where there can be much larger ascents and descents. Cross Triathlon
Cross triathlon, or off-road triathlon, is a form of triathlon, or three-stage race, consisting of a swim stage, mountain-biking stage, and a trail-running stage. Cross triathlons are distinguished from conventional triathlons in that the terrain for the cycling and running stages are generally unpaved, rough, and hilly. They require different techniques than conventional triathlon races, and in particular the athletes employ mountain bikes rather than road bikes. A cross triathlon requires a higher degree of technical biking skill, as opposed to the high speed and endurance demands of road biking in a road triathlon. Ironman Triathlon
An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), consisting of a swim, a bicycle ride and a marathon run completed in that order, a total of . It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. Most Ironman events have a time limit of 16 or 17 hours to complete the race, course dependent, with the race typically starting at 7:00am. The mandatory cut off time to complete the swim is 2 hours 20 minutes.
