Jim McMillan (speedway Rider)
James Dunn Templeton McMillan (born 3 December 1945), better known as Jim McMillan or Jimmy McMillan, is a retired Scottish motorcycle speedway rider. British League Riders' Championship
The British League Riders Championship was an individual motorcycle speedway contest between the top riders (or two riders) with the highest average from each club competing in the British League in the UK, or the top division of the league during the period when it had two or more divisions. Similar tournaments had been held before the formation of the British League in 1965, including the Provincial League Riders' Championship, open to riders from the Provincial League. The championship has been sponsored by Player's No 10, Skol, Leyland Cars, Gauntlet, Daily Mirror, TNT Sameday and Dunlop. The championship continued until the British League Riders' Championship was replaced with the Premier League Riders Championship in 1995. 1972 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1972 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 27th edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. The 1972 final attendance at Wembley Stadium was 75,000. New Zealander Ivan Mauger joined Barry Briggs on four title wins (2nd only behind Ove Fundin) by defeating Bernt Persson in a run-off after both riders finished on 13 points. In heat five, Briggs was involved in an accident which all but ended his speedway career. Going into the first turn his front wheel was hit by Bernt Persson's bike which caused him to fall. He was then hit by the Russian riders Grigory Khlinovsky and Valery Gordeev. Briggs suffered a severe hand injury and lost the index finger on his left hand which caused him to temporarily retire from racing. Briggs had been considered one of the pre-meeting favourites and his favouritism had been firmed when he had beaten fellow New Zealander Ivan Mauger in heat 2. Queensland Individual Speedway Championship
The Queensland Solo Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held annually in Queensland to determine the Queensland State champion. The event is organised by the Motorcycling Queensland and is sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). Keith Gurtner and John Titman head the list of Queensland Championship wins with seven each. 1986 Australian Champion Troy Butler and current (2014/15) champion Josh Grajczonek are next with six wins.
