Jim Lewis (astrologer)
Jim Lewis (born James Lewis Slayden; 5 June 1941 in Yonkers, NY) was an astrologer, writer and entrepreneur. He is best known for pioneering the technique of Astrocartography. Astro*Carto*Graphy Locational astrology is an old concept, but Lewis expanded a little-known field, using detailed maps and modern software. In 1979, Lewis published his first edition of his annual ''Sourcebook of Mundane Maps''. His theories were subsequently developed by other authors. Lewis eventually trademarked the term Astro*Carto*Graphy® (A*C*G). This registration is still maintained by the Astro*Carto*Graphy Living Trust. A non-profit division of the Astro*Carto*Graphy Trust - Continuum - the Jim Slayden Lewis Foundation - lists over 20 book titles including those by Lewis that are either devoted to Astro*Carto*Graphy or where the technique features extensively. Brackets
A bracket is either of two tall fore- or back-facing punctuation marks commonly used to isolate a segment of text or data from its surroundings. Typically deployed in symmetric pairs, an individual bracket may be identified as a 'left' or 'right' bracket or, alternatively, an "opening bracket" or "closing bracket", respectively, depending on the Writing system#Directionality, directionality of the context. Specific forms of the mark include parentheses (also called "rounded brackets"), square brackets, curly brackets (also called 'braces'), and angle brackets (also called 'chevrons'), as well as various less common pairs of symbols. Robert Hand
Robert Sterling Hand is an American astrologer, historian, and writer. Early life Robert Hand was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, and grew up in Orleans, Massachusetts. He began studying astrology at the age of 17. His father, Wilfred Hand, was a specialist in cosmobiology and heliocentric astrology, and used astrological charts to forecast changes in the stock market, and taught his son the basics of casting astrological charts. Hand went to Brandeis University, where he earned a B.A. in Intellectual History in 1965. He then went on to Princeton University and left before receiving a degree to pursue astrology as a full-time profession in 1972. Career Hand began writing programs for microcomputers in 1977 with a desire to bring the benefits of fast and accurate calculations to the practice of astrology. Locational astrology (sometimes referred to as astrogeography or locality astrology) is any of various types of astrology that factor in specific locations of the Earth. The different types also carry a range of astrological techniques. Astrogeography The topic of astrological geography is the astrological study of the lands, the features, the inhabitants, and the phenomena of the Earth. The origins of astrogeography may possibly go back to the roots of astrology in Mesopotamian Culture. Some relation between zodiac signs and cardinal points is highly probable to have been established for astrological weather forecasts and other purposes of prediction. Dennis Elwell (astrologer)
Dennis Elwell (16 February 1930 – 13 November 2014) was a British astrologer, journalist, author and lecturer. He is the author of the book ''Cosmic Loom'', and has contributed articles to the publications ''The Future of Astrology'', the ''Astrological Association Journal'', ''American Astrology'', ''Prediction'' and ''Mountain Astrologer''. Career He was born in Stourbridge, Worcestershire in 1930. Elwell talks about his time of birth in the interview published in Garry Phillipson’s ''Astrology in the year'' 2000 (London: Flare, 2000), saying "My own time of birth has been rectified by myself from my parents' recollection that I was born late at night. Michel Gauquelin
The Mars effect is a purported statistical correlation between athletic eminence and the position of the planet Mars relative to the horizon at time and place of birth. This controversial finding was first reported by the French psychologist and "neo-astrologer" Michel Gauquelin. In his book ''L'influence des astres'' ("The Influence of the Stars", 1955), Gauquelin suggested that a statistically significant number of sports champions were born just after the planet Mars rises or culminates. He also divided the plane of the ecliptic into twelve sectors, identifying two "key" sectors of statistical significance. Gauquelin's work was accepted by the psychologist Hans Eysenck among others but later attempts to validate the data and replicate the effect have produced uneven results, chiefly owing to disagreements over the selection and analysis of the data set.
