Jim Leech
James William (Jim) Leech (born June 12, 1947) is a Canadian business executive. Since 2021, he has been chancellor-emeritus of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. From 2014 to 2021, he was the 14th Chancellor of Queen's University. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP), first for 6 years as a senior vice-president of OTPP head of Teachers' Private Capital, OTPP's private investment arm, and then as president and chief executive officer of the pension plan until his retirement in 2013. Queen's University at Kingston, commonly known as Queen's University or simply Queen's, is a public research university in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Queen's holds more than of land throughout Ontario and owns Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England. Queen's is organized into eight faculties and schools. The Church of Scotland established Queen's College in October 1841 via a royal charter from Queen Victoria. Canadian Forces Base Kingston (also CFB Kingston) is a Canadian Forces Base operated by the Canadian Army located in Kingston, Ontario. History The Barriefield Military Camp, commonly called Camp Barriefield, was established as a military base at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914 on the east bank of the Cataraqui River opposite the city of Kingston in the village of Barriefield. Located north of King's Highway 2, the name of the military base and village was in honour of the Royal Navy's Rear-Admiral Sir Robert Barrie who served during the War of 1812. In 1937 the base expanded to the south side of King's Highway 2 with the opening of the Vimy Barracks, named in honour of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. A Canadian Forces base or CFB (french: links=no, base des Forces canadiennes, BFC) is a military installation of the Canadian Armed Forces. For a facility to qualify as a Canadian Forces base, it must station one or more major units (e.g., army regiments, navy ships, air force wings). 32 Signal Regiment (Canada)
32 Signal Regiment (Amalgamated from former 709 Communication Regiment and 700 Communication Squadron) is a Canadian Army primary reserve unit, part of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. It is the dedicated signals unit within 32 Canadian Brigade Group. The regiment exercised its Freedom of the City in Toronto in 2017. History The regiment was established in Toronto in 1907 as the 2nd Signalling Company of the—then newly established—Signalling Corps. It employed semaphore flags, lamps, and heliographs. Telegraphy was still under the purview of the Canadian Engineers at the time, and as a result the 2nd Signalling Company had a detachment that paraded with the 2nd Engineer Company which was also based in Toronto.
