Jim Lange
James John Lange (; August 15, 1932 – February 25, 2014) was an American game show host and disc jockey. He was known to listeners in the San Francisco and Los Angeles radio markets with stints at several stations in both markets, racking up over 45 years on the air. Lange was also known to television viewers as the host of several game shows, including ''The Dating Game''. Early career Lange began his radio broadcasting career in the Twin Cities after winning an audition as a teenager, later appearing as kids show host "Captain 11" on WMIN-TV (now KARE). He graduated from Saint Thomas Academy, going on to the University of Minnesota on a scholarship from the Evans Scholars Foundation. After graduating from the University of Minnesota and serving in the Marines, Lange moved to San Francisco. ''Give-n-Take'' is an American television game show which ran on CBS from September 8 to November 28, 1975. Jim Lange hosted, with Johnny Jacobs announcing. The series, which replaced '' Spin-Off'' (also hosted by Lange and announced by Jacobs), ended after 60 episodes. Gameplay Four female contestants competed to accumulate prizes with a total value as close to $5,000 as possible without going over. The returning champion and three challengers each sat in one portion of an eight-spaced board, shaped like a daisy, with a neutral "advantage space" separating each contestant from her neighbors to either side. ''The Newlywed Game'' is an American television game show that puts newly married couples against each other in a series of revealing question rounds to determine how well the spouses know or do not know each other. The program, originally created by Robert "Nick" Nicholson and E. Roger Muir (credited on-screen as Roger E. Muir) and produced by Chuck Barris, has appeared in many different versions since its 1966 debut. The show became famous for some of the arguments that couples had over incorrect answers in the form of mistaken predictions, and it even led to some divorces. Many of ''The Newlywed Game''s questions dealt with "making whoopee", the euphemism that producers used for sexual intercourse to circumvent network censorship. ''Bullseye'' is an American game show that aired in syndication from September 29, 1980 to May 1982, with reruns continuing until September 24, 1982. Jim Lange was the host, and the program was produced by Jack Barry and Dan Enright. Jay Stewart was the announcer for the first season, and Charlie O'Donnell announced for the second season. The series' executive producer was Ron Greenberg. Gameplay Main game Two contestants competed, one a returning champion who had initial control of the game. The gameboard consisted of three circular windows arranged in an upside-down triangle. ''The Hollywood Connection'' is an American game show that ran in syndication from September 5, 1977 to March 3, 1978. Jim Lange hosted the series, while Jay Stewart ( Johnny Gilbert in earlier episodes) announced. The series was produced by Barry & Enright Productions in association with Golden West Broadcasters. Premise Two contestants faced a panel of six celebrities in a game of answering questions about the stars themselves, a concept similar in format to ''Match Game''. As in ''Match Game'', the contestants' goal is to match the stars' answers in order to score points; this is classified as "making a connection". ''Name That Tune'' is an American television music game show. Originally created and produced by orchestra conductor Harry Salter and his wife Roberta Semple Salter, the series features contestants competing to correctly identify songs being played by an on-stage orchestra or band. ''Name That Tune'' premiered on the NBC Radio Network in 1952, where it aired until 1954, and made the move to television in 1953 on the same network. CBS picked up the television series in the summer of 1953 and carried it through 1959. A short-lived revival for syndication followed in 1970 with Richard Hayes as host, but a second revival in 1974 was much more successful.
