Jim Bennett (hurler)
James Bennett (1944 – 31 December 2014) was an Irish hurler who played as a right corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Bennettsbridge, County Kilkenny, Bennett first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his senior debut during the 1965 championship. Bennett subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medal, one Leinster medal and one National Hurling League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions Bennett won one Railway Cup medal. At club level he was a two-time championship medallist with Bennettsbridge. He later played with St Monica's in Dublin. His son, Greg Bennett, played hurling with Dublin. Bennettsbridge
Bennettsbridge () is a village in County Kilkenny in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is situated on the River Nore south of Kilkenny city, in the centre of the county. Bennettsbridge is a census town, and has population of 745 as of the 2016 census. Tom Walsh (Thomastown Hurler)
Tom Walsh (born 1944 in Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Thomastown and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1963 until 1967. Playing career Club Walsh played hurling with his local club in Thomastown and enjoyed some success during a brief playing career. He first came to prominence as a member of the Thomastown under-14 team in the 1950s. It was a glorious period of success at under-age level as the club won five under-14 championship titles in succession. Walsh was involved in four of these. The sixties saw Walsh join the club's senior hurling team, however, he never won a senior county title. Eddie Keher
Edward Peter Keher (; born 14 October 1941) is an Irish former hurler who played as a centre-forward at senior level for the Kilkenny county team. Born in Inistioge, County Kilkenny, Keher first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team. He made his senior debut in the 1959 championship. Keher went on to play a key part for Kilkenny over several seasons, and won six All-Ireland medals, ten Leinster medals and three National Hurling League medals. An All-Ireland runner-up on four occasions, Keher also captained the team to All-Ireland victory in 1969. As a member of the Leinster inter-provincial team for sixteen years, Keher won nine Railway Cup medals, a record for a Leinster player. Ollie Walsh
Patrick Oliver Walsh (13 July 1937 – 9 March 1996) was an Irish hurler and hurling manager. His career included All-Ireland Championship victories as a player and later as a manager with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. After beginning his career at club level with Thomastown, Walsh joined the Kilkenny minor team as a 15-year-old in 1953 and won a Leinster Minor Championship in 1955. After a brief stint with the junior side, he was promoted to the Kilkenny senior team in 1956. From his debut, Walsh was ever-present as a goalkeeper and made a total of 42 championship appearances in a career that ended with his last game in 1972. During that time he was part of five All-Ireland Championship-winning teams – in 1957, 1963, 1967, 1969 and 1972. Oireachtas Tournament
The Oireachtas Cup was an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association between 1939 and 1999 for the top inter-county teams in Ireland. The series of games were usually played in the autumn months after the completion of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The prize for the winning team was the Oireachtas Cup and a special set of gold medals for the winning team. The tournament was initially a one-off challenge game between two top teams, however, as more teams entered a straight knock-out tournament developed. The Oireachtas Cup was a post-championship hurling competition, with large crowds at Croke Park on the day of the final. Over time, however, it fell out of favour with both players and supporters and was eventually scrapped.
