Jetze Plat
Jetze Plat (born 10 June 1991 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch para-cyclist in the H4 class. He also competes in the paratriathlon. Career Plat was born with two stunted legs. In 1995, Plat started using a handcycle, to cycle to school. Later he started practising the sport para-cycling. In the beginning of his athletic career Plat was coached and trained by Kees van Breukelen. As Plat improved in the sport he was coached by Ralf Bekers. During the World Cup in Rome, Plat qualified for the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. In the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, Plat competed in both cycling and para-triathlon. He won the paratriathlon gold medal in the PT1 class. He also won a bronze medal in the Men's Road Race in H5 class. These were his first Paralympic medals. He was one of the flag bearers for the Netherlands during the opening ceremony of the 2020 Summer Paralympics. H4 (classification)
H4 is a para-cycling classification. The UCI recommends this be coded as MH4 or WH4. Definition Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) defines H4 as: *Paraplegic with impairments corresponding to a complete lesion from Th11 or below * No lower limb function or limited function * Normal or almost normal trunk stability * Non-spinal cord injury, functional ability profile equivalent to sport class H4 (ex-H3) * Incomplete loss of lower limb function, functional ability profile equivalent to sport class H4 (ex-H3) or H5 (ex-H4), with other disabilities, which prevent the safe use of a conventional bicycle, tricycle or the Kneeling position in a handbike * Recumbent position in handbike (AP or ATP-bike) * Diplegia and athetosis/ataxia/dystonia (almost normal UE) Hemiplegic with spasticity a minimum of grade 3, lower limb more involved. Paratriathlon At The 2020 Summer Paralympics
Paratriathlon at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, took place at the Odaiba Marine Park. It was the second time that paratriathlon was be scheduled in the Paralympics. Eight events were contested (four events for men and women each); two more events than previously contested at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. The race course consisted of a 750m swim, 20 km bike ride and 5 km run, the swimming part of the race took place at the Odaiba Bay while the cycling and running courses traveled through the West Promenade district of Odaiba, featuring waterfalls and public gardens. Cycling at the 2020 Summer Paralympics took place in two separate locations. Track cycling took place at the Izu Velodrome from 25 to 28 August 2021 and road cycling took place on the Fuji Speedway from 31 August to 3 September 2021. The 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They kept the 2020 name and were held from 24 August to 5 September 2021. The paratriathlon competitions at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 10–12 September 2016 at Fort Copacabana. Sixty athletes competed across two genders, and six events. Cycling At The 2016 Summer Paralympics
Cycling at the 2016 Summer Paralympics consisted of 50 events in two main disciplines, track cycling and road cycling. The venues were the Rio Olympic Velodrome for track cycling in the Barra Cluster, and the Flamengo Park for the road cycling disciplines in the Copacapana Cluster. Seventeen events were contested on the track, and 33 on the road. Classification Cyclists are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. This method is known as a functional system and was introduced in 2012.
