Jesse Salalu
Jesse John Salalu is a Micronesian politician who is serving as the eighth and current Governor of Yap since December 29, 2021. Salalu was sworn into office following Henry Falan being ousted by the Yap legislature. He previously served as lieutenant Governor of Yap under Falan from January 2019 to December 2021. He is the first Governor of Yap to be born on the outer islands, which means his lieutenant governor must be someone born on the main island of Yap. Prior to running for public office, Salalu served as a teacher, high school principal, and regional administrator for the Neighboring Islands at the Yap State Department of Education. Henry Falan
Henry S. Falan is a Micronesians, Micronesian politician and the former Governor of Yap from January 19, 2019, to December 17, 2022. Falan was removed from his position as governor by the Yap State, Yap state legislature. Jesse Salalu, his former Lieutenant Governor, took his place as Governor of Yap. Before governorship Falan first served in Yap District Legislature in 1977. He later served as Director of Department of Education of Yap from 1996 to 2004. In 2007, Falan was elected to the Yap legislature, and he served as its speaker from 2011 to 2014. Impeachment On September 16, 2021, Falan signed an executive order to close the Yap Attorney General, Yap State Office of the Attorney General in response to the legislature not approving Falan's supplementary budget request needed to attract and retain qualified legal professionals to the office. Fais Island
Fais Island is a raised coral island in the eastern Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Fais Island is located approximately east of Ulithi and northeast of Yap and is the closest land to Challenger Deep, about 180 miles away. The population of Fais Island was 215 in 2000. Yap ( yap, Waqaab) traditionally refers to an island group located in the Caroline Islands of the western Pacific Ocean, a part of Yap State. The name "Yap" in recent years has come to also refer to Yap State, the state within the Federated States of Micronesia, inclusive of the Yap Main Islands and its various outer islands, the Yap Neighboring Islands. For specifying the island group, the name ''Yap Main Islands'' is most exact.
