Jesse Poe
Jesse Poe (born August 5, 1975, in Louisville, Kentucky) is a songwriter and primary member of Tanakh, the musical collective. He spent a decade in Virginia, beginning in 1993; the first half of the decade was spent in Blacksburg, and relocated to Richmond where he met David Lowery and several Sound of Music Studios stalwarts. In 2003, he moved to Italy and worked as a teacher by day. In addition to managing Tanakh, Poe has also been involved in other projects. Jesse Poe is a distant relative of the literary figure Edgar Allan Poe. Collaborations Poe is involved with an ambient vocal-led improv project called Crevlyn, which also features Tanakh associate Ben Scott (of Ting Ting Jahe). He is also in a folk-pop band with Tanakh bassist Michele Poulos. Tanakh (band)
Tanakh is the name of a musical collective from Richmond, Virginia as well as a reference to the music produced by the group. The collective was formed in 2000 by its primary songwriter, producer and recording engineer Jesse Poe. Background Poe and Phil Murphy were then working as apprentices under John Morand at Sound of Music Studios to improve their recording skills. The two musicians would take turn recording each other after hours at the studio, using whatever instruments happened to be left around. This included many international instruments that Joan Osborne had recently left in studio. They would layer track upon track taking turns recording while the other played, and vice versa; some recordings from this time appeared on the bonus CD with the band's 2002 debut album ''Villa Claustrophobia''. David Charles Lowery (born September 10, 1960) is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, mathematician, and activist. He is the founder of alternative rock band Camper Van Beethoven and co-founder of the more-traditional rock band Cracker. Lowery released his first solo album, ''The Palace Guards'', on February 2, 2011, via the 429 Records label.
