Jersey Society In London
The Jersey Society in London is a membership society of people from all over the world interested in life, history and culture in the Bailiwick of Jersey. Nicholas Paines is the Chairman. Activities Three times a year the Society holds a dinner meeting, followed by a quiz or talk, at Westminster Kingsway College, Vincent Square, London. There are sometimes speeches by the Chief Minister of the States of Jersey. Boules and other events are held for the members. The Bulletin The Bulletin is the journal of the Society, published twice a year, and sent to the members. There are articles on Jersey architectural history, a digest of Jersey news, and reports on the three Society meetings in London. Jersey ( , ; nrf, Jèrri, label=Jèrriais ), officially the Bailiwick of Jersey (french: Bailliage de Jersey, links=no; Jèrriais: ), is an island country and self-governing Crown Dependencies, Crown Dependency near the coast of north-west France. Westminster Kingsway College
Westminster Kingsway College is a large college for further education in central London with centres in King's Cross in Camden, together with Victoria and Soho centres in Westminster. Founded in 2000 and having origins dating back to 1910, the college is part of Capital City College Group, alongside City and Islington College and The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London. Altogether, the group have over 25,000 enrolled students as of 2020. Westminster Kingsway College provides further, adult and higher education programmes, including full-time and part-time vocational, professional and academic courses at different levels. Vincent Square
Vincent Square is a grass-covered square in Westminster, London, England, covering 13 acres, lined with mature trees including London Planes. In among a network of backstreets, it chiefly provides playing fields for Westminster School, who own it absolutely; otherwise, it functions as a green lung and a view for the homes, hotel and other organisations adjoining. Nine of its adjoining buildings have been given strict statutory architectural recognition and protection. Boules
''Boules'' () is a collective name for a wide range of games similar to bowls and bocce (In French: jeu or jeux, in Croatian: boćanje and in Italian: gioco or giochi) in which the objective is to throw or roll heavy balls (called in France, in Croatian and in Italy) as closely as possible to a small target ball, called the ''jack'' in English. Boules-type games are traditional and popular in many European countries and are also popular in some former French colonies in Africa and Asia. Archaeology Of The Channel Islands
Archaeology is promoted in Jersey by the '' Société Jersiaise'' and by Jersey Heritage. Promotion in the Bailiwick of Guernsey being undertaken by ''La Société Guernesiaise'', ''Guernsey Museums'', the ''Alderney Society'' with World War II work also undertaken by ''Festung Guernsey''. Archaeologists in each island give regular talks on their work and summer digs in the islands usually require helpers and volunteers. Interest in the archaeology of the islands is first recorded in the 16th century. By the 18th century articles were being published in magazines with engravings explaining interesting historic sites.
