The Mississippi House of Representatives is the lower house of the Mississippi Legislature, the lawmaking body of the U.S. state of Mississippi. According to the state constitution of 1890, it is to comprise no more than 122 members elected for four-year terms. To qualify as a member of the House candidates must be at least 21 years old, a resident of Mississippi for at least four years, and a resident in the district for at least two years. Elections are held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Membership, qualifications, and apportionment Article 4, Section 36 of the Mississippi Constitution specifies that the state legislature must meet for 125 days every four years and 90 days in other years. Mantachie, Mississippi
Mantachie is a town in Itawamba County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,121 in the 2020 census. It is located northeast of Tupelo at the intersection of Mississippi Highways 363 and 371 and north of Interstate 22. The town began as a crossroads store owned and operated by Woods Pearce. Near Mantachie on the old Jacinto Road was the largest Chickasaw village in this section of the state. Mantachie was named for one of the Chickasaw chiefs, Man-ta-chee. Most of the Chickasaws left the village after the Treaty of Pontotoc Creek was signed in 1832. Geography Mantachie is located in western Itawamba County at . Mantachie Creek, a south-flowing tributary of the Tombigbee River, runs past the west side of the town. Itawamba Community College
Itawamba Community College is a public community college with its main campus in Fulton, Mississippi. Additional campuses are in Belden and Tupelo. History Itawamba Community College began as an extension of Itawamba County Agricultural High School, one of the largest high schools in Mississippi, which was organized in 1920. In 1941, the trustees extended the curriculum to provide for two years of college work. However, World War II postponed the plans for buildings and equipment to pursue college status. In March 1948, the boards of supervisors and school boards of Itawamba, Lee and Monroe counties unanimously and harmoniously agreed to support Itawamba Junior College. A full freshman college curriculum was offered for the first time during the 1948-49 session, and sophomore work, during 1949-50. Levi Colbert (1759–1834), also known as ''Itawamba'' in Chickasaw, was a leader and chief of the Chickasaw nation. Colbert was called ''Itte-wamba Mingo'', meaning ''bench chief''. He and his brother George Colbert were prominent interpreters and negotiators with United States negotiators in the early decades of the 19th century. They were appointed by President Andrew Jackson's administration to gain cession of their lands and arrange for removal of their people to Indian Territory west of the Mississippi River. They were under considerable pressure from the Mississippi state government, white interlopers in their area, and the federal government to cede their lands.
