Jerry Newsom
Jerry Newsom (born May 19, 1946) is a former American college basketball player. High school career Columbus Born in Columbus, Indiana, Jerry Newsom attended Columbus High School. He led the Bulldogs to consecutive undefeated seasons in 1963 and 1964; reaching the State Finals in 1964. He led the state in scoring during his Senior year averaging 28 points a game, with a total of 1,325 points in his high school career. He was a member of the Indiana All-Star Team. He fell short of winning the Indiana Mr. Basketball Award to Dennis Brady. College career Indiana State After high school, Jerry attended Indiana State University, located in Terre Haute, Indiana. He played basketball under head coach Duane Klueh and Gordon Stauffer; leading the team in scoring and rebounding his entire career; he finished his career as the #1 career scorer (he's now #3) and the #1 rebounder (#2 behind Larry Bird). The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the arbiter of interscholastic competition among public and private high schools in the U.S. state of Indiana. It monitors a system that divides athletically-competing high schools in Indiana based on the school's enrollment. The divisions, known as classes, are intended to foster fair competition among schools of similar sizes. A school ranked 3A is larger than a school ranked 1A, but not as large as a 6A-ranked school. Only football has 6 classes. Boys' basketball, girls' basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball are divided into four classes. The Indiana Pacers are an American professional basketball team based in Indianapolis. The Pacers compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference Central Division. Kentucky Wesleyan College (KWC) is a private Methodist college in Owensboro, Kentucky. The college is known for its liberal arts programs. Fall 2018 enrollment was 830 students. History Kentucky Wesleyan College was founded in 1858 by the Kentucky Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It was originally located in Millersburg. Classes began in 1866 and the first commencement took place in 1868. At first, it was a training school for preachers but soon business and liberal arts classes were added to the curriculum.
